Amazon EMR is the industry leading cloud-native big data platform for processing vast amounts of data quickly and cost-effectively at scale. Using open source tools such as Apache Spark, Apache Hive, Apache HBase, Apache Flink, and Presto, coupled with the dynamic scalability of Amazon EC2 and scalable storage of Amazon S3, EMR gives analytical teams the engines and elasticity to run Petabyte-scale analysis for a fraction of the cost of traditional on-premises clusters.

We are developing innovative new features including our next-generation cluster management system, improvements for real-time processing of big data, and ways to enable customers to more easily interact with their data.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from senior and principal engineers who are domain experts at AWS. You will be part of a collaborative and growing team working on complex problems for a successful and long-running product. You will have an opportunity to learn and influence how our customers use EMR for a wide variety of use cases.

We don’t need you to be an expert in distributed systems as you will have a chance to learn with your team, although a good understanding of the basics will help you ramp up. We value engineers who love what they do and are passionate about their work. We appreciate curiosity and craftsmanship over knowledge in certain frameworks. Our technologies include:
Core Java
Microservices powered by internal RPC framework

A lot of AWS stack – DynamoDB, Lambdas, API Gateway, CloudFormation, EC2, etc. (Where can you learn AWS technologies better than at AWS itself?)
Kerberos, TLS, LDAP

Utility Computing (UC)
AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
