In the next three years, we will transform the current shopping experience to one tailored to the customer’s needs by using machine learning (ML), query understanding, personalized recommendations, and new design thinking. Our innovative systems include high efficient and large scale platform built on Amazon's cloud computing infrastructure. For this position you will have a strong background in OO design with C++/Java. Experience working with WebServices, XML, Apache services is desired. Linux system development experience is a plus. Equally important to these specific skills is the ability to multi-task, quickly adapt to new development environments and changing business requirements, learn new systems, create reliable/maintainable code, and find creative and scalable solutions to difficult problems.

As a Software Development Manager, you will define and drive the technical strategy for building Search experiences, leading a team of engineers to innovate at scale. You will collaborate across science, product, and design teams to deliver next-generation solutions that enhance shopping journeys for millions of customers.

A day in the life
- Thinking big and collaborating with product leadership and business stakeholders to define strategy and long-term vision.
- Owning the end-to-end technical strategy and delivery roadmap.
- Defining initiative goals and owning all associated metrics, using data to drive decisions.
- Architecting scalable, resilient AI-driven systems that can adapt across multiple product categories and shopping missions.
- Partnering closely with engineers to develop the best technical designs and scalable solutions.
- Managing the full software development life cycle, from design and development through launch and operations.
- Leading and mentoring a team of engineers and applied scientists, building a culture of high technical standards, innovation, and ownership.
- Reporting regularly on development progress, quality, operations, and system performance to senior leadership.
