BloombergNEF (BNEF) is seeking a talented, highly motivated individual to join our solar analysis team in New York and write new research on the transformation of the solar sector. Specifically, the successful candidate will support critical work around forecasting solar capacity build in the US with a focus on residential, commercial and industrial segments, understanding and communicating impact of policy changes and broader solar industry trends to our clients.
You are someone with a keen interest in clean energy, and you enjoy digging deep into a topic. You develop original opinions through critical examination, and you enjoy communicating these in both writing and speech. You are a quick learner, and your quantitative skills are very strong. You are passionate about developing insights and analyzing market trends, and you have a good eye for detail. Teamwork is important to you, and you are excited by the prospect of collaborating with colleagues and clients from a wide range of backgrounds.

You will be based in New York, working as part of a global research team at BNEF – the world's leading independent provider of analysis, tools, data and research to decision makers leading change in the energy system. Our data-driven research helps clients stay on top of developments across the energy sector, supported by the outstanding depth and breadth of the Bloomberg Terminal and bnef.com platforms. Growing renewable energy installations will be crucial if the world is to reach its net-zero commitments. Our team produces datasets and research on the outlook for clean power demand, supply and technology and prices.

THE ROLE:
You will join as an analyst covering the US solar market and focusing on the residential and commercial & industrial segments, as well as other broader solar industry trends. Together with your colleagues, you will identify topics of client interest and importance, conduct independent research, generate insightful findings, and produce written reports of publishable quality. You will collaborate with a high degree of integrity with colleagues and clients from different cultures and countries, in person and remotely. You will develop an internal and external network of industry contacts to gather insights, identify trends and collect information. You will be working with colleagues and clients based around the world – periodic travel is expected.
WE WILL TRUST YOU TO:
- Become an expert on the US solar market, with a particular focus on the residential and commercial segments
- Research, analyze and write about the latest developments in the sector including the evolution and competitiveness of the US solar supply chain, policy impacts, regional solar market dynamics, bankability of solar modules and inverters, and the US corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) market.
- Partner with analysts based in the US and abroad on quantitative analysis and market sizing.
- Monitor changes and trends in solar module pricing and in the policy, regulatory and financing environment.
- Use data efficiently and effectively, whether to forecast build estimates or the capital raised by residential solar financiers
- Speak with industry figures and BloombergNEF clients to capture information and opinions.
- Present and discuss BloombergNEF research with authority to various audiences, during client visits or at conferences.
- Build reputation in the industry through independent research and peer learning.
YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE:
- A Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, engineering, economics, policy, or finance, or a strong willingness to learn coupled with a quantitative background.
- Demonstrated interest in and passion for the renewable energy industry.
- Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, summarizing and reasoning skills.
- Have fluent English and outstanding communication skills: writing (for research projects) and speaking (for presentations)
- Ability to learn quickly and be a resourceful self-starter.
- Keen attention to detail while moving quickly, and ability to work on tasks and projects concurrently.
- Ability to think critically and develop thoughtful opinions by cutting through the noise of data, finding key patterns, applying judgment to the claims of industry participants and asking insightful questions
- Proficiency manipulating and analyzing data in Excel and Python.
WE’D LOVE TO SEE:
- Understanding of renewable energy technology or policy.
- Experience working on data projects and using analytical tools such as SQL or Python
- Passion for clean energy or climate action!
- Prior experience working in or analyzing residential and commercial & industrial solar markets, clean energy policies, corporate demand for renewables or other topics related to energy, whether through an internship, academic research, or prior work experience.
- Ability to speak another language fluently, particularly Spanish or Mandarin.
