Bloomberg News is seeking a reporter to join the Data Visualization team in New York. You’ll collaborate with editors and reporters across the newsroom to pursue smart visual narratives, and you’ll create clear and informative charts, maps and other graphics that help readers draw insights from data.
We value people who are passionate about news and motivated to work with others on a variety of deadlines, including breaking news. You’ll collaborate with data visualization colleagues to report on news events as they evolve over subsequent days or weeks, and you’ll have opportunities to ideate and pitch stories on topics important to the Bloomberg audience. We welcome applicants with a range of skills that enables them to create clear and compelling visualizations, though experience with mapping is preferred. And you’ll work at least four days per week in-person in Bloomberg’s New York office.
We’ll trust you to:
- Rely on your exceptional curiosity, technical prowess and design sensibilities to create informative maps, charts and other graphics
- Work efficiently under a variety of deadlines, including breaking news
- Possess interest in topics core to Bloomberg News coverage — including finance, markets, economics and government policy, among others — and an eagerness to develop subject-matter expertise in these areas
You’ll need:
- Strong sense of visual design, layout, typography and user experience and familiarity with design software such as Adobe Illustrator and Figma
- Experience reporting on varied deadlines and crafting visual narratives with data
- Experience with data reporting, e.g. the ability to collect, manage, munge, explore and analyse data from various sources and formats using R, Python or other programmatic methods
- Experience with front-end web development using modern HTML, CSS and JavaScript and rendering graphics in the browser
