Bloomberg News is seeking an enterprising contract reporter to lead coverage from Pennsylvania, a pivotal swing state with outsize influence on national politics and the economy.
This role is a chance to cover a state where many of the country’s biggest storylines show up first, from elections that can tip the national balance to shifting patterns in jobs and investment. We’re looking for someone who moves quickly, knows what’s worth chasing and can turn it into clear, meaningful stories.
You'll cover the Pennsylvania governor’s race and other key contests for the November midterms, reporting on the candidates, donors and voter sentiment across the entire state. You will also track the economy, including manufacturing investment, AI development, labor-market trends and Pennsylvania’s role as a US trade and energy hub, spanning PhilaPort to the Marcellus Shale development.
The role includes reporting on Pennsylvania as a bellwether for affordability, migration and housing pressures. You will also collaborate across company teams to keep tabs on major businesses in the region, including Comcast, PNC Financial Services Group and The Hershey Co., as well as the education sector anchored the University of Pennsylvania, Penn State and Carnegie Mellon.
Working across Bloomberg’s National and Politics teams, you'll be expected to deliver fast, exclusive and insightful stories. The role will require 20 hours per week.
WE’LL TRUST YOU TO:
Deliver at minimum four well-crafted stories per month
Break news and get scoops on topics ranging from business to politics
Develop enterprise that connects politics, policy and the economy
Be a self-starter -- pitch ideas proactively and follow them through to execution
Build a strong source network across politics, government and business
