Senior Software Engineer - Network Production Engineering
Software Engineering
Posted on Jul 1, 2026
What if the next big infrastructure platform you built was not another app, but the software layer that controls a global production network?
Bloomberg’s network is the foundation behind our real-time data, trading workflows, enterprise connectivity, and core products used by financial professionals around the world. It spans large-scale data centers, more than a hundred edge sites, hundreds of thousands of clients, over 1,500 global exchanges and trading venues, private connectivity, the Internet, and public cloud.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Network Production Engineering team and help transform how Bloomberg builds, operates, and evolves its global network infrastructure.
You will build the platforms, automation, models, telemetry pipelines, and orchestration systems that make the network programmable, observable, testable, and safer to change at scale.
For network engineers, this is a chance to take deep protocol and infrastructure knowledge and multiply its impact through software. For software engineers, this is a chance to work on distributed systems where code directly controls real-world infrastructure that global markets depend on.
If you are excited by the idea of turning complex network operations into reliable software systems, this is the team for you.
What You’ll Work On
You will build software and automation that helps Bloomberg operate one of the world’s most important production networks with more speed, safety, and reliability.
On this team, you will:
- Build tools using platforms that automate how network infrastructure is provisioned, configured, tested, monitored, and repaired.
- Develop software that makes network changes more predictable, repeatable, and safe.
- Improve observability so engineers can better understand network health, performance, capacity, and reliability.
- Create large-scale automation that helps manage Bloomberg’s global network infrastructure safely.
- Work with network architecture, infrastructure, security, SRE, and platform teams to deliver reliable systems at global scale.
- Build integrations with orchestration systems, telemetry platforms, source-of-truth systems, CI/CD pipelines, and other infrastructure services.
- Help define practical reliability goals and measurements that show how well the network is serving Bloomberg’s products and clients.
- Mentor other engineers and help raise the bar for software engineering practices across the team.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for engineers who enjoy solving infrastructure problems with software.
You should have:
- 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, Network Production Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer, Systems Engineer, or Infrastructure Engineer.
- Experience building automation that helps teams operate infrastructure at scale.
- Strong programming experience, preferably with Python or another object-oriented language.
- Familiarity with infrastructure automation or orchestration tools such as Ansible, Airflow, Terraform, Chef, Salt, or similar technologies.
- A practical understanding of how reliable systems are built, tested, deployed, monitored, and improved over time.
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
We’d Love to See
These are helpful, but not all required:
- Experience working with network platforms from vendors such as Juniper, Nokia, Arista, Cisco, or disaggregated networking solutions.
- Familiarity with automation, data modeling, source-of-truth systems, or infrastructure-as-code.
- Experience with observability and telemetry tools such as Splunk, Grafana, Humio, or similar platforms.
- Experience with CI/CD tools and modern software delivery practices.
- Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies.
Join the Network Production Engineering team and help us build the future of software-driven network infrastructure at Bloomberg.
