That reputation supports the work of our CTO team, which sets the company’s technology direction, and the more than 9,000 engineers around the globe who build the systems and tools that solve real problems for our clients across the capital markets.
Role Overview
You're a creative communicator with a passion for technology and a deep curiosity about how AI is reshaping industries. You will work collaboratively to drive strategic communications efforts that engage with the AI community across both industry and academia, demonstrating Bloomberg's leadership and expertise in deploying cloud-native technologies to support our AI solutions.
You know how to build and maintain close working relationships with engineering leaders, AI researchers, marketing and communications partners, and journalists. You are a habitual collaborator and enjoy working with peers to achieve business outcomes. You like to ideate, but your real expertise is getting stuff done.
The Role
As part of the Innovation Communications team, you'll make sure Bloomberg's AI story reaches the people who matter: the media, the tech and AI industries, the academic world, and our customers. You will:
- Promote Technical Leadership: Develop and execute communications strategies to showcase Bloomberg's "under-the-hood" expertise in AI infrastructure and the specialized tools that power our systems, translating complex technology into messaging that resonates with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Manage Bloomberg’s Reputation in the Open Source AI Community: Highlight Bloomberg's contributions to the global tech community related to open source AI, building trust and authority within the AI industry. Collaborate with engineering leaders, our CTO team, and marketing/communications teams to shape and articulate Bloomberg's commitment to innovation.
- Build Academic Ties: Connect Bloomberg with top AI researchers and university academics to keep us at the forefront of innovation and research. Build and sustain long-term partnerships that bring academic insight into Bloomberg's strategic communications agenda.
- Influence Industry Standards: Position Bloomberg as a leading voice in how AI technology is built, standardized, and shared globally – and how it must be optimized for use in the finance sector. Provide counsel to senior management and subject matter experts to build and burnish the perception of Bloomberg as an AI technology leader.
- Support Conference Talks & Research Papers: Ensure academic papers published by Bloomberg's AI researchers are properly promoted to media, academia, and the industry at large. Support conference talks about our AI research and help engineers prepare presentations and posters.
- Build & Execute Integrated Communications Strategies: Help build and execute integrated external and employee communications strategies that enable recruitment and recognition of top talent, amplifying Bloomberg's story as an innovator and a great place for AI researchers and engineers to work.
- Media & Analyst Relations: Handle reactive and proactive media and analyst relations.
- Measure & Report: Report on appropriate KPIs and metrics to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of external communications. Interact with PR/Comms agency partners to maximize reach and resonance.
You'll need to have:
- A bachelor's degree, along with at least 4 years of experience developing and implementing communications programs for business/financial, trade, and/or technology media; developer or research communications a plus
- Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills
- The ability to translate complex AI and technology-related topics into messaging that resonates with target audiences, from journalists and academics to industry analysts and policymakers
- The ability to provide timely, appropriate, and accurate counsel to technology and communications partners to address issues and capitalize on opportunities
- Experience implementing integrated communications strategies, including thought-leadership and digital content development (blogs, videos, and social media)
- More than a basic familiarity with the global AI and technology marketplace, including awareness of key academic institutions, research labs, and open source communities
- Familiarity with media, social media, channels, and influencers active in and around AI, machine learning, and the broader technology community
