Manager I, Engineering - Observability Pipelines
Datadog
Observability Pipelines allows organizations to collect, process and route logs within their own infrastructure before sending them to downstream integrations.
- The Observability Pipelines Worker runs inside customer infrastructure, aggregating, transforming, and routing logs. This ensures data redaction, pre-processing, and routing can happen before any data leaves the environment.
- The Observability Pipelines UI provides a control plane to manage Workers, build and edit pipelines, and deploy changes. It also enables health monitoring of pipelines to ensure operational reliability.
As an Engineering Manager for Observability Pipelines, you will lead the team responsible for ingesting, transforming and delivering data within Observability Pipelines. Your team will design, build and maintain high-scale, high-performance data processing systems that give customers full control over their observability data.
You will work closely with engineering, product and design stakeholders to drive innovation while ensuring system scalability, reliability and performance. You will also foster a high-performing team culture that encourages mentorship, technical excellence and collaboration.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead, mentor and grow a team of 5–7 engineers responsible for ingestion, transformation and delivery of data in Observability Pipelines.
- Define and execute the technical roadmap, ensuring Observability Pipelines remain scalable, performant and reliable.
- Own Quarterly OKRs and deliver roadmap initiatives that enhance the data processing, transformation and routing capabilities.
- Be technically involved with the team—reviewing RFCs, architectural decisions and key pull requests to ensure high-quality and efficient solutions.
- Work cross-functionally with internal platform teams to optimize integration and performance across Datadog’s observability ecosystem.
- Ensure operational excellence, including participating in on-call rotations, improving observability of pipelines, and reducing incident response time.
- Improve developer efficiency by optimizing team processes, automation and tooling.
Who You Are:
- You have experience managing teams of 5+ engineers with a range of seniority levels.
- You have a strong technical background in backend development and distributed systems, particularly in high-throughput data processing.
- You are product-oriented, with a track record of shipping impactful features that provide real customer value, and comfort with customer interaction and partnering with Product Managers to align roadmaps.
- You excel at resolving ambiguity, managing stakeholders and providing clear direction for projects.
- You have experience designing and scaling data ingestion and processing systems that handle large volumes of observability data.
- You have a BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience.
