Position Summary
COUNSEL–LABOR & EMPLOYMENT
The Counsel role in the Labor & Employment Group of Deloitte’s Office of General Counsel (“OGC”) handles all aspects of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and state agency employment charges, including investigations, drafting of positions statements, and dispute resolution; drafts and revises organizational policies; assists with personnel file requests; drafts and revises releases and agreements; and conducts research and analysis to support policy updates, employment law counseling, and other matters.
Work you’ll do
- Represent the Deloitte U.S. Firms in investigations by federal and state agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”).
- Supervise or assist in the supervision and conduct of complex internal investigations of allegations of misconduct or unfair treatment.
- Draft written responses and compile documents and information to respond to charges, complaints and any other request for information from the EEOC and similar state and local agencies.
- Handle mediations and settlement negotiations.
- Draft and revise organizational policies.
- Assist in gathering and preparing personnel documents in response to requests.
- Conduct research and analysis to support creation/update of policies, employment law counseling, and other matters/projects.
- Draft and revise employee-related agreements, waivers/releases.
- Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.
The individual in this role must:
- Be able to present information and advice, verbally and in writing, to other attorneys and internal clients at all levels of the organization.
- Be a self-starter, possess highly developed writing, communication and advocacy skills, strong counseling and negotiating skills, and be able to manage multiple matters simultaneously.
- Have well-developed organizational and time management skills.
- Team effectively and collaboratively with attorneys and others in OGC, and handle matters at all levels of complexity as needed to support the L&E team.
Required Basic Qualifications
- Hold a JD or LLM from an accredited U.S. law school and be licensed to practice law in the United States.
- Minimum of 3 years of legal experience as a licensed attorney practicing employment law in a law firm or comparable in-house setting.
- Experience in handling EEOC and state agency charges, as well as participating in mediations and settlement negotiations, and handling regulatory investigations.
- Experience with legal research and analysis, fact-finding, and investigations.
- Experience drafting/updating policies and agreements.
- May require some travel.
- Limited immigration sponsorship may be available
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $205,700 to $342,900.
You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
