As an Insurance Manager, you'll be part of an innovative Treasury team that believes in creating new value and unlocking unlimited personal growth. You will be responsible for driving strategic decision-making around our use of insurance, using actionable insights. Ultimately our goal is to enable Shopify merchants to grow their businesses, and we do that by fostering growth and mitigating risks within Shopify corporate and our product offerings.

You will be responsible for securing competitive premiums while aligning with Shopify’s risk appetite, building our insurance capital strategy, and navigating insurance claims. You'll also play a pivotal role in developing Shopify’s long-term insurance strategy and building an insurance operations function to support new, innovative products.

How you will make an impact:

• Establish yourself as the go-to insurance expert within Shopify.

• Oversee corporate and merchant lending insurance programs, ensuring they align with our strategic goals.

  • Lead annual insurance renewal processes, securing competitive premiums that align with Shopify’s risk appetite.

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including brokers and insurance companies, to effectively communicate the Shopify story.

  • Conduct thorough assessments of all insurance options to optimize risk management.

  • Act as a key stakeholder in monitoring, navigating, and managing insurance claims.

• Develop and implement Shopify’s long-term insurance strategy.

• Consult on product builds, focusing on insurance structures, money movements, and financial implications.

• Build and enhance the insurance operations function to support innovative insurance-related products.

• Navigate the complexities of the international regulatory environment.

• Maintain strong relationships with business groups (e.g., Legal, Revenue) to assist product leaders and stakeholders in making informed decisions.

  • Support the drafting of commercial agreements to ensure effective risk transfer.

• Partner with our Data and Finance teams to drive actionable insights through value-added analytics.

• Develop and deliver comprehensive presentations to senior leadership, clearly communicating complex analytical findings and strategic recommendations.

• Mentor team members in generating valuable business insights, teaching data analysis techniques (using SQL & Python), and collaborating with data scientists from both our product and finance teams.

What you bring to the team:

• Strong track record of execution and impact in a series of progressive experiences in an insurance and/or risk oriented setting

• Proven experience in corporate insurance

• Strong analytical, decision making, project management, planning, and organizational skills

• Expertise in advanced statistical tools and programming languages for data analysis and modeling; SQL and Python

• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex data insights into actionable recommendations for diverse stakeholders.

• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, drive strategic initiatives, and deliver measurable results in a fast-paced, data-driven environment

• Entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to thrive in a fast-moving, remote, ambiguous work environment

• Curiosity and a passion for excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement

• Experience within a publicly traded company managing corporate insurance or brokerage

• Experience in tech or other SAAS-based business models
