As a Staff Product Designer focused on the mobile buyer experience, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping how millions of people explore, connect, and fall in love with creativity on Etsy. This is a high-impact, strategic role where you’ll help define what extraordinary mobile experiences look like across the buyer journey—ensuring Etsy is not just easy to use, but encouraging to return to.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Product Design Manager. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. Within the Buyer Experience organization, our work centers on making Etsy a creative destination: a place where buyers explore ideas, feel personally understood, connect with real makers, and come back frequently—not because they must, but because they’re inspired to. Your work will directly contribute to bringing that vision to life through thoughtful, polished, and forward-looking native design.
You’ll operate as a design leader within the Buyer Experience, partnering closely with Product, Engineering, Research, Analytics, and Content to drive clarity, quality, and innovation across mobile surfaces.
What does the day-to-day look like?
Set the Bar for Mobile Design Excellence - Champion visual and interaction design quality across native mobile experiences, defining what “great” looks like and ensuring Etsy feels simple, trustworthy, expressive, and delightful.
Lead End-to-End Experience Design - Own sophisticated, high-impact buyer journeys across exploration, discovery, evaluation, and purchase—balancing customer needs, business goals, and technical constraints.
Drive Strategy Through Design - Develop product direction in early-stage work by leading workshops, design sprints, and concept explorations that help teams align on vision, requirements, and long-term outcomes.
Design at a Systems Level - Audit and refine existing experiences, contributing to and evolving our design system to ensure scalability, consistency, and excellence across the buyer ecosystem.
Drive Experimentation & Iteration - Partner with Product, Engineering and Analytics to build experiments, interpret results, and iterate based on insights—using both qualitative and quantitative signals to guide decisions.
Explore Future-Looking Solutions - Bring curiosity and fresh thinking by exploring new interaction patterns, motion, storytelling, and new technologies (including generative AI) that elevate buyer experiences.
Influence Across Teams and Organizations - Clearly articulate design rationale, trade-offs, and system value to audiences ranging from peers to senior leadership—helping teams make better, more customer-centered decisions.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
7+ years of professional product design experience, with deep expertise designing native mobile experiences.
Exceptional visual and interaction design skills, proven through a portfolio showcasing high-quality UI, end-to-end flows, system thinking, and scalable solutions.
Proven experience designing complex, high-traffic consumer experiences in areas such as discovery, commerce, or marketplaces.
Collaboration skills, with a track record of close partnership with engineers to ensure high-quality execution.
Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence and align diverse collaborators.
A strategic, proactive mindset—comfortable navigating ambiguity, crafting clarity, and driving initiatives forward independently.
As a Staff Designer, you will be expected to:
Collaborate with cross-functional partners to define vision and strategy.
Set interaction design standards and resolve complex interaction challenges.
Develop prototypes to clarify product strategy and influence organizational priorities.
Apply soft skills like listening, negotiating, and decision-making.
Drive design thinking and product innovation across various time horizons, setting long-term goals while delivering near-term solutions.
