Product Application Engineer, IBM Corporation, Tucson, Arizona (40% telecommuting permitted):
- Provide preliminary FA on tape drive issues from the field, both FW and HW.
- Work with customer and manufacturing on the RMA process.
- Track issues with customers and communicate status effectively.
- Work with the extended development team as needed to get to root cause.
- Identify the need for new Engineering Changes (ECs) and work with the team to release ECs for Original Equipment Manufacture (OEMs).
- Understand and create fix lists for tape drive firmware.
- Understand tape drive processes and develop workarounds for field issues.
- Provide updates to the functional and OEM spec.
- Work with the OEM sales team to communicate future capabilities/roadmap items to get buy-in and feedback.
- Analyze and understand intended product function and develop test cases to verify correct operation.
- Understand testing methodologies and apply them to ensure product quality.
- Implement performance and test-coverage improvements.
- Make cost vs risk/reward decisions when implementing test cases. Interpret and explain test results and business impact.
