Investment Banking Family Coverage Group – Vice President
J.P. Morgan’s IB Family Coverage Group (FCG) is a coverage group in the Commercial & Investment Bank (CIB), focused on ultra-high net worth families and their Family Investment Firms. FCG is part of the broader Strategic Investors Group in the Investment Bank, which covers additional financial firms such as Private Equity, Infrastructure, Pension Fund and Sovereign Wealth Funds. Within FCG, the mission is to become the trusted advisor and the preeminent provider of Investment Banking Services to families, family investment firms and their portfolio companies, and to provide this important client group the same consistent and focused coverage that is provided to our top corporate and financial sponsor clients.
Job Summary
The Vice President will play a central role within the IB Family Coverage Group in all aspects of client coverage of family investment firms, coordination across the Investment Bank, Commercial Bank and Private Bank, as well as Mergers & Acquisitions, debt and equity capital markets transaction execution. As a seasoned Investment Banking professional, you’ll have experience developing strong relationships with family investment firm clients, driving origination of Investment Banking transactions and working as a key partner to coordinate across the IB’s broader coverage, industry and product groups. You’ll work on deals and transactions across the spectrum of Investment Banking products, including Mergers & Acquisitions, divestitures of family investment firm portfolio companies, restructurings, loans, institutional debt and equity capital raises.
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinating broader Family Investment Firm coverage with Investment Banking, Commercial Banking and Private Banking partners
- Driving the sourcing of new Investment Banking transactions, across Mergers & Acquisitions, debt and equity capital markets products
- Focusing as an Investment Banking lead in joint coverage of Family Investment Firms with both senior bankers (Global Chairs and/or Vice Chairs) and junior bankers
- Acting as the primary day-to-day client point of contact and lead banker on deals
- Reviewing and coordinating the analytical work of junior bankers to move marketing / execution process forward
- Refining marketing / execution materials for maximum client impact
- Overseeing the creation of financial projection models in a financing and/or strategic capacity
- Leading client negotiations, Q&A process and broader diligence with family investment firms and their portfolio companies as part of transactions
Required Qualifications, Capabilities & Skills
- Prior work experience in an Investment Banking front office role, including strong historical client interaction
- Ability to comfortably liaise and communicate with clients in a professional and mature manner
- Extensive self-starter, who is highly proactive and focused on both client idea generation and sourcing of Investment Banking transactions
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with specific ability to communicate concepts and ideas concisely and defend their validity
- Very strong quantitative and analytical skills (including Excel modeling and valuation work)
- Ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines, and have the aptitude to synthesize large amounts of information and to develop innovative solutions
- Adaptability, able to manage projects independently and be ready to assume a high level of responsibility as a member of a team
- Experience in training junior bankers
- Excellent understanding of financial, legal and reputational risks facing large, globally integrated investment banks in today’s environment
