Job Description:

We are looking for a Head of Insurance Underwriting who will have a rare early-stage opportunity to define the insurance roadmap for our company over the next 24 months and well beyond. Working side-by-side with the founding team, this person will have a lot of responsibilities for building out the insurance vertical at Koop, from establishing insurance carrier partnerships to providing valuable inputs to the platform development roadmap.

Specifically, the candidate will:

• Take ownership in the insurance roadmap from insurance program development down to specific platform insurance features
• Create innovative insurance programs encompassing General Liability, Errors & Omissions, Cyber Liability, Management Liability for a wide range of industries
• Learn the technicals of cybersecurity, operational, and vertical-specific compliance and tie those to a proprietary underwriting methodology
• Automate end-to-end underwriting process to ensure quick customer turnaround and operating efficiency with the help of AI
• Deliver value to clients’ insurance and go-to-market teams through innovative insurance tools and programs to facilitate clients’ growth
• Participate in client meetings, create client materials, and deliver client presentations
• Interact with insurance carriers on a magnitude of business development initiatives
• Navigate complex regulatory environments of the insurance industry
• Help build out underwriting, actuarial, claims, and distribution functions and teams
• Work with cross-functional teams in Sales, Product, Engineering, Operations, and Research
• Help build out insurance operations backend and workflows
• Define insurance KPIs across the organization and achieve required milestones
• Report to and work closely with the CEO of the company
• Be a subject matter expert and thought leader in the preventive insurance space
• Represent Koop Technologies and own the preventive insurance narrative

You will be joining a team of quantitative modelers, insurance professionals, and software engineers, all bound together by an incredible drive to define, build out, and scale the category of preventive insurance.

Job Requirements:

• Experience in leading underwriting or actuarial teams at an insurance/insurtech/brokerage company
• Experience in Commercial Casualty Lines, preferably Tech E&O, Cyber, General Liability, and Management Liability
• Experience with complex insurance transactions, policy documents, and coverage nuances
• Experience in managing end-to-end insurance processes: client relationships, underwriting, technical pricing, claims handling, and renewals
• Ability to directly interact with specialty clients as well as smaller retail clients that can have complex liability needs in emerging technologies
• Solid understanding of the insurance, MGA, and brokerage markets
• Experience with building out and scaling professional insurance teams
• Established industry network in insurance, reinsurance, and/or brokerage
• Previous work with fronting carriers, captives, and reinsurers is a plus
• Strong knowledge of insurance fundamentals and ability to reason from the first principles
• Founder mindset, tremendous work ethic, and excellent written/verbal skills

Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of experience at an insurance/insurtech/brokerage company in mid- to senior-level, client-facing underwriting or actuarial roles
• At least a few years of management experience, specifically in insurance team building
• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Business (e.g. Management or Finance), Science (e.g. Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics), or related academic fields
• Excellent project management skills
• CPCU, FCAS, ACAS, ARM, or the equivalent is a plus but not required
• Willingness to travel nationally and internationally
