You're traveling, and you're somewhere because you're supposed to be there. The museum. The monument. The sight. You find yourself drifting a little. You're just going through the motions, walking from painting to painting, plaque to plaque. You look around you to see if other people feel the same way. You're embarrassed to admit, but, you're not getting all that much out of the experience. It feels mindless, but everyone told you to go there, so, you're there. You don't really know why any of this matters. You're not able to get anything out of the experience, because you don't have the "why" behind it all. Context is the thing that brings it all together. It's the bridge from seeing to understanding. From observation to meaning. Context is all the things you are not seeing - the choices, the personalities, the conflict, the drama, the grandiosity and the mundanity, all the things that happened to make the world precisely what it is today.
