Overview

Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide and we are looking for passionate engineers to help achieve that mission.

As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the MILE team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for engineers with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.

Within SCHIE, the Microsoft Silicon Engineering and Solutions team is seeking passionate, driven and intellectually curious engineers to join our Central Front-End Tools, Flows and Methodology (TFM) group, based in Bangalore, India. This team drives state-of-the-art converged solutions, development, automation and quality assurance checks across front-end areas like RTL & VIP Design, Design Verification, Validation, DFT, Emulation, PD Handoff and IP integration. The team supports numerous simultaneous projects within Microsoft by developing workflows and software for our design engineers so that they can deliver cutting-edge silicon solutions for Microsoft. In this role you will own the Azure cloud environment, security and permissions model, and the DevOps/CI-CD pipelines and methodology that the entire front-end design community depends on.

We are looking for a Silicon Front End CAD Azure DevOps Engineer to join the team.

Responsibilities
  • Own, administer and scale the Azure cloud environment used by the Central FE CAD team — subscriptions, resource groups, capacity management, and monitoring of cloud-hosted CAD infrastructure.

  • Build, maintain and continuously improve Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines for FE CAD flows and software — build, run and release pipelines, regression and quality gates, artifact and package management, and pipeline agent/pool health.

  • Own the DevOps methodology for the group: branching and version-control strategy, code review and release process, test automation standards, environment management, and rollout of practices across FE CAD sub-teams.

  • Develop, enhance and integrate FE CAD flows and automation for organization-wide use, writing production-quality software in Python (and TCL/Perl/C++ as needed).

  • Act in partnership with the execution team, and provide leadership to the design community for the CAD/DevOps domain you are responsible for.

  • Work with stakeholders across the Microsoft Silicon group to collect TFM and infrastructure requirements and translate them into a roadmap you drive to completion.

  • Partner with EDA vendors, Azure platform teams and IT/security to adopt the most optimal and secure solutions for silicon design and verification.

  • Drive reliability and incident response for CI/CD and cloud infrastructure — monitoring, dashboards, root-cause analysis and preventive automation.

  • Mentor team members and summer interns.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.

  • 6+ years of experience in CAD/EDA infrastructure, software development or DevOps engineering.

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft Azure cloud environments.

  • 3+ years of experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps preferred) and version control systems (Git preferred).

  • Experience writing scripts/software with industry standard languages such as Python, TCL, Perl or C/C++ (Python preferred).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent work experience.

  • 8+ years of relevant experience.

  • Expertise in Azure security concepts — Entra ID, managed identities, Key Vault, network security and governance/policy.

  • Experience owning DevOps methodology at team or org scale: branching strategy, release management, test automation and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, ARM/Bicep).

  • Well-rounded familiarity with Front-End Tools, Flows and Methodologies, and exposure to front-end design and verification execution.

  • object-oriented programming expertise and software development practices.

  • Experience owning and driving the end-to-end software development lifecycle for multiple complex projects.

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/AKS) and cloud cost optimization.

Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
