Overview
As the Chief of Staff for the People Team at GitHub, you’ll work directly for the Chief People Officer and work closely with the People Leadership Team to help them grow, scale, and run the organization effectively and achieve team goals. In this role, you will drive key areas of GitHub’s people strategy and operations, including the rhythm of business, strategic planning, project and program management, business insights and analytics, and communications.
You will define and execute the rhythm of the People organization for the Chief People Officer; including meeting cadence, off-sites, and all-hands, working closely with teammates across the People team. You will collaborate cross-functionally, partnering with Chiefs of Staff and other key leaders across GitHub to drive results. You will serve as a critical partner for People Team leaders on ad hoc projects ranging from functional strategy, organizational design, data analysis, and support on key business decisions. You will serve as the program manager for key projects, driving both strategic vision and project execution.
This role requires a highly resourceful, self-driven individual with impeccable discretion and the ability to partner, execute, and lead through influence and to operate with tempo. The role supports a global business and team, so work hours may vary based on specific business needs.

The base salary range for this job is USD $105,400.00 - USD $279,500.00 /Yr.
These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.

Responsibilities
- Manage operational rhythm of the People Team: build meeting agendas, capture key insights and action items, and follow-up accordingly.
- Lead initiatives and projects on behalf of our Chief People Officer and the People Leadership Team, advancing both the goal clarity and project execution.
- Provide the Chief People Officer with insightful data-driven strategic recommendations. Communicate findings from initiatives to management and the broader organization.
- Produce a variety of materials for the People Team including summary papers, Leadership Team updates, organizational communications (in partnership with the Communications team), email drafts and presentations.
- Partner closely with other functions including Product and Engineering, Communications, PR, Marketing, Finance, Legal and Operations.
- Use cross-functional knowledge and seek to understand issues, trends, and perspectives that may influence the business. Connect the dots for key stakeholders to drive increased alignment.
- Drive the People Leadership team towards clear, efficient and accountable decision making.
- Distill and cascade core tenets of our strategy for leadership and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Solve ambiguous problems with minimal oversight.
- Identify signals through noise; drive clarity and action in an environment of competing priorities.
- When appropriate, act as Chief People Officer proxy, and highly accessible People Team information source for other major functions, including Engineering, Communications, Product, PR, Marketing, Revenue, Finance, Legal, and Operations.
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, business-related roles, or related field
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Management, Computer Science, Liberal Arts, or related field AND 8+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, business-related roles, or related field
- OR Master's Degree in Business Administration, Management, Computer Science, Liberal Arts, or related field AND 6+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, business-related roles, or related field
- OR Doctorate in Business Administration, Management, Computer Science, Liberal Arts, or related field AND 6+ year(s) experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, business-related roles, or related field
- OR equivalent experience.
- Ability to travel up to 10% to serve business or client needs.
- 5+ years of experience as an HR Business Partner, HR Leader within an HR Center of Excellence, or HR project manager.
- Previous experience as a Chief of Staff supporting an HR leader.
- Experience partnering effectively with cross-functional teams or projects and a demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity through curiosity and research.
- Proven results in working with C-level stakeholders and the ability to lead through influence.
