Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. Within Azure Data, the usage billing team builds the next-generation data platform for reliable ingestion, aggregation and processing of usage emitted at high volume by Microsoft services and submits to internal Commerce systems for an accurate and timely bill to customers. This is a mission critical service built for scale, compliance and data guarantees also leveraging our world class Azure Data real time messaging, streaming and analytics services to ensure critical billing usage data to flow into revenue for Microsoft.
As a Principal Software Engineer/Architect on the team, you will have the opportunity to work with various Azure technologies to build a massively scalable cloud service. You will develop and validate various components needed to build a robust, distributed and resilient platform for Azure Usage Billing along with helping in the design of parts of the platform. This includes working on service management, programmability, usage pipeline, service fundamentals like monitoring, security, performance, engineering systems, tooling and live site. This is a senior technical leadership role to work with peer leaders and across the team on design, architecture and delivery.

Azure provides customers an on-demand scalable platform to build, host and operate services through Microsoft global data centers with 200+ distinct capabilities available in 50+ regions. Our customers use different Azure services and are billed as per their usage of these services with different SKUs (Stock Keeping Unit)/offers. This is a rare opportunity to define and drive the new frontier of infrastructure to meet the demands of growing Azure usage as well as supporting Office and other Microsoft services by providing a unified, reliable, and accurate usage billing platform. This service offering will support the breadth of Azure offerings with additional capabilities for auditing, automated verification and reconciliation, analytics and much more!

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
- 4+ years people management experience Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience with building cloud services.
- Demonstrated experience engaging across organizations and working in a product architect role.

As a Principal Software Engineer/Architect on the team, you will have the opportunity to:
