The Azure Managed HSM team is on the lookout for a Principal Software Engineer to help us achieve our vision. Our team is dedicated to creating groundbreaking technologies that empower customers to protect their most valuable assets using some of Azure's most secure hardware infrastructure. With Azure Confidential Computing technologies, customers have complete control over key access and management policies. This service is fully managed, ensuring high availability and robust security guarantees. Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience in cryptography: A deep understanding of cryptographic algorithms, protocols, and key management practices is ben. Experience with FIPS validated HSMs would be highly beneficial.
  • Strong Background in Hardware Security Modules (HSMs): Hands-on experience with HSMs, including their deployment, management, and integration with cloud services. Familiarity with Azure Key Vault Managed HSM or similar services is a plus.
  • Proficiency in High-Performance Computing: Demonstrated ability to design and implement high-throughput, low-latency systems. Experience with performance optimization and scalability in distributed systems is crucial.
  • Expertise in Cloud Computing: In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms, particularly Azure, and experience with cloud-native architectures. Understanding of Azure Confidential Computing technologies and their application in securing customer data.
  • Strong Programming Skills: Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, or C#. Experience with secure coding practices and software development lifecycle methodologies.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Proven track record of leading technical projects and mentoring engineers. Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including product management, security, and operations.
  • Problem-Solving and Innovation: Ability to identify and solve complex technical problems, and a passion for innovation. Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to articulate technical concepts and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership: You will lead the design, development, and implementation of complex software solutions for the Azure Managed HSM service. This includes driving technical advancements and ensuring the highest standards of security and performance.

Collaboration: You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, security, and operations, to deliver high-quality features and improvements. Sharing your experience with other engineers and fostering a collaborative environment is key.

Innovation: You will be responsible for identifying and implementing innovative solutions to enhance the service. This includes staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies to ensure Azure Managed HSM remains at the forefront of security and performance.

Mentorship: As a senior member of the team, you will mentor and guide engineers, helping them develop their skills and grow their careers. Embracing a growth mindset and encouraging continuous learning is essential.

Quality Assurance: You will create and execute comprehensive plans for testing and assuring the quality of solutions. This includes defining success criteria for tests, escalating issues as necessary, and sharing insights with the team through retrospectives.

Customer Obsession: You will ensure that the solutions you develop meet the needs of our customers. This involves understanding customer requirements, providing high availability and security guarantees, and continuously improving the service based on customer feedback.
