Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service design
- OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service design
- OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems)
Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience as a designer and/or creative director and proven track record of working with a multi-disciplinary team of UI/UX designers, software/UX engineers to build and ship digital or web-based products
- Extensive experience building out enterprise level Design Systems
- A portfolio demonstrating your expertise in designing (and delivering from conception to implementation) beautiful, well-crafted Design Systems, products and experiences. We are looking for portfolios that demonstrate a sophisticated approach to visual design and brand expression as well as deep systems thinking
- Ability to create highly polished designs and is also a deep critical thinker
- Understanding and proven execution of design fundamentals including typographic systems, iconography, color theory, layout and motion/behavior design
- Ability to apply and extend a design language
- A university or college degree, or equivalent, in Visual Communication Design, Interface Design, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, etc.
- Proficiency with Figma and the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects)
- Understanding of emerging AI tools and prompting is a plus
- This is not a management role but has the potential to become one. Experience in design leadership and management is a plus

Product Design IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with multiple teams and disciplines to orchestrate a holistic design direction across products
- Manage and scale a Design System through shared UI kits, libraries, documentations and guidelines.
- Drive design approval and review process with partners across the organization and scale the language for our design system, upholding the highest quality standards.
- Develop frameworks for how to build inclusive, coherent AI experiences across a range of features for the Microsoft consumer suite of products: Copilot, Bing, MSN, Edge and Windows.
- Influence changes and improvements to the Microsoft AI design system, clearly articulate the rationale through user and product insights, reuse or extension of existing patterns or frameworks where possible, as well as finding opportunities to align closely across product groups.
- Work closely and constructively with visual and interaction designers, content designers, user researchers, engineers, product management to create and deliver world class components, patterns, and design documentation.
- Solve complex design problems in simple and intuitive ways, that blend brand personality, visual, motion and sound to create delightful experiences.
