Overview

As a ROC Critical Environment Technician, you will immerse yourself in the heart of our operations, taking the helm in our state-of-the-art Regional Operations Center. Your day will be dynamic, handling critical alarms and coordinating closely with local teams to ensure the seamless performance of our data centers.

Your expertise will be pivotal in maintaining operational integrity and driving incident resolution, all within a collaborative and high-performance environment. This opportunity will allow you to learn about the intricacies of data center operations, develop expertise in incident response and alarm handling, and gain proficiency in utilizing cutting-edge monitoring tools and dashboards to maintain operational excellence. This role allows for remote work flexibility based on Manager discretion.

As a ROC Senior Critical Environment Technician, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform.   • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

  • Previous relevant experience in mission critical services work/applied learning experience (e.g., high availability assembly/manufacturing/critical infrastructure environments such as data centers, oil and gas refineries, hospitals, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or related fields)

Background Check Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

While not required, we also look for the following Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree or technical trade certification (e.g., military, trade school)

  • Strategic Monitoring and Oversight: Oversee advanced monitoring tasks, provide strategic direction in major areas of operations, and utilize technical knowledge to guide device analytics and trend recognition for proactive issue resolution.

  • Incident Command and Leadership: Strategically support local teams during incident response for all abnormal conditions impacting operations, lead corrective actions, and conduct root cause analysis (RCA) pertaining to ROC performance during incident response.

  • Data Center Systems Mastery: Demonstrate expert understanding of data center systems and their interactions, focusing on strategic monitoring and oversight.

  • Advanced CMMS Application: Manage the tracking of equipment alarms and maintenance work using the internal Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), oversee the documentation of changes and procedures, and ensure accurate and insightful reporting.

  • Safety and Security Leadership: Lead safety and security initiatives, ensure compliance with all requirements, chair required meetings and trainings, and drive environmental health and safety (EH&S) objectives.

  • Process and Procedure Optimization: Suggest changes to procedures based on best practices, and manage coordination with partner teams, ensuring alignment with the critical environment standards team (CETS) and Central Operations ROC PM.

  • Executive Reporting and Decision Support: Provide executive-level reports, analyze strategic findings, and document insights to support high-level decision-making and operational excellence.
