Overview

The Xbox Game Studios Publishing (XGSP) team responsible for the recently released Towerborne, Ara: History Untold, Microsoft Flight Simulator, As Dusk Falls, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, and Tell Me Why is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer - Kubernetes. This is a rare opportunity to join a creative and motivated team of people, develop exciting new projects, and take advantage of the newest technology available with backing and support from across Microsoft. Join the team driving world-class game development that sets the standard for entertainment across a growing family of devices including Xbox and Windows.

Our team is responsible for building and operating the services and websites that power our games – whether they were released years ago or have yet to be announced. We’re looking for a platform engineer with extensive experience building and maintaining the cloud infrastructure that powers large-scale, highly available, secure-by-default web services and websites.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, Python, Go
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience developing and operating Kubernetes clusters and applications deployed on them.
  • Experience with a cloud computing environment (Azure or others).
  • Operational Excellence with an observability stack (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, etc.) and automation experience with IaC tools like Terraform, Kubernetes cloud management operators.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CI/CD pipeline development experience (Azure DevOps or others).
  • Demonstrable experience creating or contributing to Helm charts.
  • ASP.NET Core service development experience.
  • Website development and/or operations experience, especially with PHP/WordPress/Apache.
  • Experience using the Kusto Query Language.
  • Demonstrable experience with Go/Python.
  • History of game development experience or a passion for online gaming.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of and experience with operating REST services.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code for cloud-hosted game services and websites, with a specific focus on improving security across our portfolio.
  • Develop effective and reusable monitoring and alerting to achieve high availability.
  • Design and implement processes to securely maintain and update infrastructure across our portfolio.
  • Collaborate with the team to address security incidents and initiative-driven change requests as they arise.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve service, website, and infrastructure failures.
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation.
