Microsoft has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer in the Cloud + Artificial intelligence (AI) Azure Data Transfer team.
The Azure Data Transfer team builds and operates the Azure services used to securely transfer data across clouds, including sovereign and air-gapped clouds. The opportunity to work in the Azure Data Transfer team is exciting, and we are looking for motivated software engineers who have a solid engineering background and ownership mentality, particularly those who want to make their mark in Azure.
You will work with engineers and partners who enable a broad set of Azure services consumed by internal and external customers in highly secured and regulated industries. The systems and software you build shall meet the security policy and assurance requirements of both public and private sector customers.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience
- 2 years experience with distributed systems and micro-service architecture
Other Requirements:
Security Clearance Requirements: Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Candidates must have an active TS/SCI and be willing to upgrade to TS/SCI (with polygraph). This role will require candidates to maintain the TS/SCI (with polygraph) clearance. Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.
- Clearance Verification: This position requires successful verification of the stated security clearance to meet federal government customer requirements. You will be asked to provide clearance verification information prior to an offer of employment.
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S. citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customer and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport, or other approved documents, or verified US government Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 6+ years technical engineering experience with any object-oriented coding languages including, but not limited to C#, C++, C, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- 6+ years of professional experience with designing, developing, and shipping reliable distributed systems and services
- Experience shipping products on a regular release cycle
- Experience debugging issues ranging from the operating system, application, and all the way to the cloud
- Proven experience with building and supporting large-scale production services, including logging, monitoring, alerting, and measuring reliability and availability
- Experience with Azure Compute, Azure Storage, and Cosmos DB services
- Experience deploying, monitoring, and operating services in the cloud
- Dependable communication skills and cross group collaboration
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for the overall architecture, performance, quality, and release process of new and existing Azure Data Transfer features
- Work closely with customers and partners to understand their needs and feedback and incorporate them into the product roadmap and vision
- Partner with other Microsoft teams to leverage existing Azure services and capabilities and contribute to the Azure ecosystem
- Partner with product management, MVPs, customers and other Microsoft teams to define requirements, develop a roadmap and scope projects. You will be comfortable with ambiguity while being able to create clarity for the team
- Participate in on-call rotation (typically 24 for three days every 6-8 weeks) in a secure facility
- Design and implement improvements to our security posture and compliance automation
