Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate, high-energy Telecom Engineer - Datacenter Engineering to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world’s largest online services.

This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ.
Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates will need to relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.
This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to (50)%.

Qualifications
Required Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of technical engineering experience (such as copper, cable plants, and fiber optics)
- OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 3+ years of large-scale facility networking infrastructure projects within datacenters or other comparable experience (healthcare, enterprise, large retail, critical environments, government etc.)
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Chartered or Professional Engineer or equivalent per country of residence.
- BICSI RCDD or DCDC certified
- Knowledge of industry standards, building codes and safety standards including BICSI Standards, TDMM, RUS Standards, ANSI/IEEE/IEC, NFPA, NEC, and building codes.
- Technical understanding of mission critical environments and the associated telecommunications facility considerations.
- Ability to lead multiple projects of varying timelines while managing project expectations.
- Understanding for structured cabling components.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Effective written and verbal communications skills.
- Experience using MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel including effective reporting/presentations of project information.
- Familiarity with ground-up construction, greenfield and brownfield site development requirements.
- Action-oriented with a passion for getting things done quickly, efficiently, and effectively.
- Experience with using Bluebeam Revu and associated products.
- Expertise with AutoCAD, and 3D BIM programs such as AutoCAD or Revit.
Hardware Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.

Responsibilities
The Telecom Engineer - Datacenter Engineering will be able to effectively and efficiently drive the design of all aspects of the physical networking infrastructure during design and address any design-related issues that arise during construction for Microsoft datacenters facilities for their assigned projects. The Candidate will work with internal stakeholders on standards, Microsoft requirements, and materials as specified; lead design workgroups and drive cross-functional meetings for multiple, concurrent capital projects. This individual will be tasked to manage issues, decisions and risks, and support initiatives to improve the efficiency and quality to scale with the growth of Microsoft.
The candidate will be responsible for developing Statements of Work (SOWs) and design documents, reviewing and evaluating bids and options for physical telecommunication infrastructure (Layer 0) and optical cabling, including both inside plant / structured cabling and outside plant. They will assess operational impacts, deployment, and implementation challenges associated with design implementation for Microsoft-owned facilities. Additionally, they will serve as the technical telecommunication lead on assigned projects and perform other duties as assigned.
- Collaborate with internal and external customers and partners, utilizing Base of Design documentation, to oversee the creation of the datacenter telecommunication designs from established Basis of Design (BOD) to Issue for Constructions (IFC). Candidate will also collaboratively manage the Construction Administration phase of datacenter until handover for new DC project buildouts, special projects and / or network upgrades with other discipline leads and partners.
- Provide data center physical telecommunications design direction to A/E firms. This includes specifications, details, drawing examples, one-lines, schedules, and Bill of Material information.
- Lead project specific telecom technical design & oversee the delivery of multiple, concurrent, complete Datacenter design solutions aligned with the scopes, schedules and budgets of the projects with a focus on facility telecommunications.
- Partner directly with cross organizational teams such as engineering design teams, delivery teams, operations teams, contractors and suppliers.
- Provide guidance to staff augmentation teams (which includes A/Es and A/E Consultants).
- Be highly organized and able to oversee concurrent projects and focus under pressure.

- Remote site support for construction teams.
