The Azure Core Compute Node Services team is responsible for materializing and managing customer-facing compute resources as virtual machines, containers and bare metal servers. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, and/or any object oriented programming languages.
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years experience in building large scale services, operating systems, OR SoC architecture.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience in design, coding and shipping into production.

Other Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience in building large scale cloud services, operating systems, SoC architecture Native Window, Linux development,Rust programming language,
    • AND with Hyper-V, VMWare, Docker OR other virtualization technologies,
    • AND with improving service operations or engineering fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of Performance profiling tools.
  • Proven ability to create componentized and well-architected software.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Lead discussions to evolve the strategic direction of the product, collaborate on and create proposals for architecture by testing design hypotheses and helping refine plans.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across multiple organizations to determine requirements, co-ordinate and ship products. Leverage a variety of feedback channels to incorporate insights into future designs or solution updates.
  • Create, implement, optimize, debug, refactor and reuse code to achieve high quality, performance, reliability and security.
  • Independently create a clear and articulated plan for testing and assuring quality of solutions. Identify the need for a broad versus selected approach in testing mechanisms and make informed decisions to implement the most effective tests.
  • Leverage performance and profiling tools to identify hot spots and bottlenecks across hardware and software boundaries.
  • Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guide other engineers by developing and following the playbook, responding to any service degradation or downtime alarms, alerting stakeholders about status and initiating actions to restore service. Act as a DRI for release management, ensure the release sticks to the schedule by identifying reasons for blockers/delays, improve the signals that are blocking deployments, triage the issues as new vs existing, mitigate and work towards improving the release process.
  • Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends, technical solutions and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
