Overview

Are you interested in being part of an exciting open-source library for deep learning systems? The DeepSpeed team is hiring a Senior Software Engineer!

Within AI Platform, the DeepSpeed team develops the DeepSpeed open-source library which makes deep learning efficient and easy by combining numerous research innovations and technology advancements. DeepSpeed collaborates deeply with many Microsoft teams across the company, such as Microsoft Research, and numerous products.

The DeepSpeed team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer-Machine Learning Frameworks with interest for innovations and for building high-quality systems that will make significant impact inside and outside of Microsoft. Our team is highly collaborative, innovative, and end-user obsessed. We are looking for someone with systems skills and interest about driving innovations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of deep learning systems. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Python, C, C++, Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA), or HIP
    • OR equivalent experience
  • 2+ years experience in developing and maintaining Machine Learning (ML) framework.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Python, C, C++, CUDA, or HIP
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Python, C, C++, CUDA, or HIP
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years experience in developing and maintaining OSS machine learning (ML) framework.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. Writes and learns to create code that is extensible and maintainable.
  • Creates a clear and articulated plan for testing and assuring quality of solutions, and defines success for outcomes of tests (e.g., unit tests).
  • Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.
  • Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.
  • Participates in code reviews to ensure coding standards are followed.
  • Contributes to the development of automation within production and deployment of a complex product feature.
