Overview

Microsoft’s Azure Data Engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture.

Within Azure Data, the business intelligence team builds and maintains Power BI which is the undisputed leader in BI tool in the industry today and serves as the bridge between data professionals & Office users. Power BI’s core value proposition is to enable end users to get answers & insights from their data through data visualization.

We are hiring a Principal Design Manager to support a large product scope. The team's scope covers core experiences including data ingestion, modeling, report creation and editing, report consumption, and data exploration. Depending on the project, the personas we primarily cater to are business users (people who read reports), data analysts (people who make the reports), and BI engineers/architects (people who create complex data models used to build the reports). In this dynamic space, you'll provide design leadership across low-tech end-user experiences to highly complex developer experiences, providing a range of opportunities for a curious and creative problem solver. It also involves stitching together Power BI experiences into the wider Fabric ecosystem and creating clear swim lanes for each job to be done. Broadly, you’ll oversee projects that delight Power BI users and aim to reduce the time needed to get valuable insights from their data with a focus on the UX of conversational Generative AI experiences, incorporating Large Language Models into features, designing and testing meta prompts, in addition to non-AI related UX projects that span the Power BI user journey. The role’s broad scope will give you ample room to apply your design thinking—both on projects that have immediate impact on the business as well as explorations that shape our long-term strategy, vision and UX direction.
