Overview

Microsoft Azure Boost is a highly distributed, massively scalable, and ubiquitously accessible cloud storage system designed to scale out and serve the entire world. Our team is responsible for the systems integration of hardware & software, hardware validation and overall reliability, security and compliance of our product at scale in the data center for both general & Artificial Intelligence (AI) compute platform products.


As a Senior Software Engineering Manager in Azure client storage you'll have a diverse role spanning the whole product from initial system integration of embedded hardware through to data center deployment with a strong focus on shipping a high reliability product to our customers. You'll be a team lead tasked with building a new team in Romania over the next few months.

This opportunity will allow you to learn many state of the art storage & system related technologies that underpin cloud storage from the compute host side and the infrastructure that supports them. You'll also develop broad experience on successfully shipping complex customized hardware products into a datacenter environment, a critical skill as network, storage, algorithmic & AI hardware acceleration become ubiquitous in the cloud. As a team lead, you'll learn technical leadership, hiring, mentorship and coaching skills building a high impact new team.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Rust, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience as an engineering team lead or people manager.

Other Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Rust, or Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Rust, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • People management experience.
  • Working knowledge
    • of physical storage controller technologies;
    • AND of the Windows or Linux OS concepts (user/kernel mode, devices, virtualization, hardware drivers).
  • Experience shipping high reliability products to customers.
  • Experience in operating system & hardware concepts (direct memory access, interrupts, memory management, drivers etc.), debugging, troubleshooting & cross-team collaboration skills to root cause system issues.

Responsibilities

  • Coaches & partners with appropriate stakeholders to determine product requirements for features.
  • Coaches the team and drives identification of dependencies and the design & development of our product including driving multiple group's planning coordination with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Coaches team members within the team in producing extensible and maintainable code
  • System software architecture, design & development for System on Chip (SoC) hardware from initial prototyping through to deployment in the data center.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
  • Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products.
