Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 7+ years accounting or finance experience
    • OR Master's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 6+ years accounting or finance experience
    • OR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical revenue accounting knowledge of US GAAP and specifically ASC 606.
  • Ability to understand the needs of stakeholders within Microsoft and collaborate effectively across all levels
  • Written and verbal communication skills including active listening and the ability to articulate complex issues to a variety of audiences
  • Experience with accounting systems and tools and proficient excel skillls
  • Highly adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining an emphasis on quality
  • Organizational skills, ability to prioritize competing projects and adhere to deadlines
  • People management experience and ability to build & sustain relationships at multiple levels across Microsoft
  • Ability to collaborate and be comfortable dealing with ambiguity, influencing across multiple complex organizations, and creating effecting partnerships; ability to make the complex simple
  • Professional accounting certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent.
  • Experience with technology industry
  • Experience managing direct reports

Accounting M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $115,000 - $200,300 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $146,200 - $219,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of US Based Revenue Recognition specialists who evaluate customer agreements and document the proper revenue accounting under Accounting Standards Codification 606 (ASC 606).
  • Ensure contract review and accounting processes follow the company’s documented policies.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders (legal, revenue operations, sales, finance & strategy, etc.) to collaborate on non-routine transactions, new product offerings and process improvements.
  • Serve as a key stakeholder in the design and implementation for new product launches.
  • Enhance existing operational processes to provide good service to our business partners while ensuring efficiency and accuracy and our results.
  • Review non-standard customer agreements to evaluate revenue recognition impacts and propose solutions that align with internal policies and company objectives.
  • Represent Revenue Recognition as accounting systems specialist for projects and within team to assist with contract review efforts.
  • Develop organizational enablement documentation and processes for global Revenue Recognition team.
  • Personal Development - Ability to develop and grow in role and at Microsoft
  • Participate in key strategic initiatives and assist with other ad hoc projects.
