Microsoft's Technical Accounting team applies complex accounting rules to unique transactions and is responsible for delivering holistic accounting conclusions for complex arrangements and deals.
The Group Finance Manager, Technical Accounting Policy, will be responsible for documenting and providing accounting conclusions for key consultations initiated by business partners, such as go-to-market (GTM) contracts with strategic partners, complex supply chain arrangements, leases, and other broad topics. This role offers an opportunity to closely partner with business and finance teams across the company and work with a fantastic team of experienced technical accounting professionals. Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 7+ years accounting or finance experience
- OR Master's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 6+ years accounting or finance experience
- OR equivalent experience.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 12+ years accounting or finance experience
- OR Master's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 8+ years accounting or finance experience
- OR equivalent experience.
- Professional accounting certification such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent.
- US GAAP knowledge and experience.
- Experience in software, technology industry a plus.
- Ability to collaborate and be comfortable dealing with ambiguity, influencing across multiple complex organizations, and creating effective partnerships.
- Ability to effectively scope accounting issues, apply the relevant accounting knowledge base and make decisions with conviction; make the complex simple.
- Proven business partnering and cross-group collaboration skills, with high-leveled audiences.
- Proven financial and analytical communications.
- Be a self-starter, who is well organized and adaptable, and able to multi-task and work well under pressure.
Accounting IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $115,000 - $200,300 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $146,200 - $219,200 per year.

Responsibilities
- Consult on technical accounting areas, such as leases, acquisitions, fixed assets, capitalization of various costs, and other projects and consultations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Cloud Infrastructure, Treasury, Tax, and Operations on new arrangements and programs, ensuring U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) compliance.
- Bring together specialists across teams to evaluate the holistic accounting implications of complex deals and partnerships.
- Document accounting positions and memos for complex accounting topics in simple and clear style, and be a liaison with external auditors and valuation specialists.
- Act as a resource for various cross-group initiatives, and provide prowess on special projects and other ad hoc requests.
- Monitor standard setting, work with subject matter specialists to assess the impact on Microsoft and make necessary changes to policies and controls as appropriate.
- Maintain deep and broad knowledge of GAAP and related accounting guidance.
- Identify potential gaps and risks; propose solutions and work across teams to execute.
