We are looking for an experienced communications professional to join our Global Media Relations Team as the Communications Lead in Portugal. The role offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable experiences and insights into and co-shape storytelling at the intersection of society and technology during a period of significant technological change.

The successful candidate will be responsible for engaging with a range of stakeholders to create and execute a communications strategy aligned to global storytelling priorities and local business needs and focused on editorial coverage with top media in Portugal, creating compelling customer success stories, and developing thought leadership to position Microsoft as a trusted and innovative partner for digital transformation of businesses and public sector organizations. They will also support local leadership with strategic employee and executive communications.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of success in corporate communications and media relations, with active relationships with Portuguese journalists and influencers, and substantial experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Deep understanding of the digital landscape and new media.
  • Experience with issues management and crisis communication.
  • Sound judgement and decision-making ability in complex and dynamic scenarios.
  • Ability to collaborate within diverse virtual teams.
  • Growth mindset with proven track record for new, innovative approaches and smart risk taking.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English.

Responsibilities

  • Craft and implement a communications strategy that aligns with global priorities and addresses local business needs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to produce compelling customer success stories and thought leadership content.
  • Manage media and influencer relations, including handling reputation management and crisis communication.
  • Act as a corporate spokesperson and support local leadership with strategic communications.
  • As trusted advisor contribute to executive and employee communications
  • Create impactful, newsworthy stories about how Microsoft drives industry transformation, helping organizations become more innovative, sustainable, and resilient.
  • Emphasize business outcomes and societal impact through compelling customer success stories.
  • Establish and own the process of landing those stories across earned, owned and amplified media.
  • Oversee agency management and handle financial and budget planning.
