Overview

The Azure Policy team’s mission is to empower our customers in governing Azure Resources at scale. Our team builds at-scale governance services such as Azure Policy and Management Groups in Azure's centralized management plane to provide customers with unparalleled control, and organization in their environment.


We are looking for a technically strong and motivated Principal engineer to help us deliver these solutions. Our Platform vision is to enable any customer (Large to Small) to govern, explore their Azure environments at Scale. So naturally, Scale and Perf is our team’s DNA. Anything we design, develop, deliver aligns with this vision. We are looking for highly motivated engineers who are passionate about writing a high-performance code and building scalable distributed systems. It currently takes Azure customers months to gain insights into their environments and deploy applications that meet organizational standards. We are building a unique set of capabilities to enable governing resources in Azure at scale. Our services are used by a wide range of customers – from the largest enterprises running in Azure to individual entrepreneurs. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years experience with distributed systems

Other Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
    • OR related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,
    • OR Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.
  • Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product feature.
  • Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness.
  • Performs software development in C# and other languages as needed to build Azure policy services.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), working on call to monitor service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.
  • Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
