Windows Devices Group’s Manufacturing Test & Infrastructure team at Microsoft is seeking a passionate, driven, and intellectually curious Senior Hardware Engineer to drive impact and deliver results in the world of Devices Manufacturing Test Solution at Microsoft. The Manufacturing Test & Infrastructure (MTI) Group is a core member in the Manufacturing and Sourcing (MnS) organization, which is part of the Experience and Devices (E+D) group at Microsoft. The MTI group is responsible for developing test solution for manufacturing testing of all Microsoft branded hardware devices. We develop partnerships with our internal hardware and software engineering and development teams and our third-party external suppliers to deliver value-added test solutions that delight our customers and deliver a fantastic Windows experience.

Our Hardware Engineer is responsible for creating, implementing, and maintaining world class test and measurement stations used to bring E+D’s iconic Windows devices to the customer. MTI Engineers use their deep industry and market knowledge while partnering with R&D teams to define and create test solution for all Microsoft branded products. You must be a high energy, high impact individual with demonstrated ability to succeed in a dynamic business environment. Successful candidates will build long lasting, strategic partnerships with our partners and position Microsoft for sustained success.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering (Hardware) or related field AND at least 4+ years enterprise computer, consumer electronics design or hyperscale supply chain systems experience
    • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering (Hardware) or related field AND 1+ year(s) enterprise computer, consumer electronics design or hyperscale supply chain systems experience
    • OR equivalent experience
  • Hardware development engineering experience.
  • A strong mix of technical breadth allowing to work cross-functionally to tie electronics, software, and mechanical assemblies into systems to test modules.
  • Great attitude and self-motivation. Excellent communication and exceptional teamwork with internal and external partners.
  • Proficiency with Engineering design tools.
  • SPC and six sigma methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field AND 5+ years experience in a manufacturing environment/repair
    • OR Master's Degree in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field AND 3+ years experience in a manufacturing environment/repair
    • OR equivalent experience
  • Patent or track record of engineering excellency.
  • NPI (New Product Introduction) and manufacturing operations experience.
  • Experience in the Automation System Development, high accuracy system will be plus.
  • Automation Qualification Process, JMP/ MiniTab tool will be a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Designing system level test stations with an emphasis on Audio sub-systems.
  • Test station development including lab experiment and prototyping.
  • Designing and delivering test solutions for high-volume manufacturing of consumer products.
  • Be able to work independently and skill to manage multiple projects with partners, suppliers, and contract manufacturers in Asia.
  • Hands-on skill to manage acoustics characterization and testing.
  • Familiar with audio analysis tools and audio measurement techniques used to characterize and test analog and digital audio.
  • Hands-on skill with general test and measurement equipment and audio and acoustic analyzers.
  • Systematic and conceptual thinking and to troubleshoot to root cause and solve complex problems.
