Overview

In Microsoft Customer and Partner Solutions (MCAPS) Finance, we’re driving shareholder value and carry the local accountability for the financials as well as statutory and compliance matters across all Microsoft commercial segments and products. With this new hire, Microsoft Area is looking to bring in a senior finance executive who will play an integral role as member of the India Area finance leadership team as it looks to grow exponentially – both organically and inorganically.

The context for Microsoft is to bring on board a senior finance executive for this role as it looks to grow in size in India and therefore the complexity. Microsoft also believes that the India Controller will play the most crucial role as the integration take place.

As for most senior hires Microsoft also would like the incumbent to have the potential to handle business / geo roles in the future. He/She will be responsible for controllership across the organization in India and would have impact across all Microsoft business units, products and services, customer segments.

Coordinate with outsourced providers, corporate tax function and external advisors together with the local finance team to ensure full and accurate compliance with all local statutory and tax requirements. This includes keeping on top of all new and emerging requirements and advising the CFO and CVP as appropriate on the most effective route to ensure compliance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications (RQs)

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 8+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 10+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience
  • This person should have a CPA or an MBA - Finance or a Cost Accountancy degree or a combination of these qualifications with 15 plus years of experience.
  • He/She should possess strong leadership skills, business partnering capabilities and controls & compliance culture.
  • It is preferable that the person has experience in multinational financial operations with good understanding of US GAAP, IGAAP etc.

Preferred Qualifications (PQs)

  • Relevant experience with statutory laws, accounting policies, tax laws, etc.

Key indicators of success

  • Meet local tax and statutory filing requirement for responsible stat entities – no delayed filings.
  • Cash forecast accuracy / Tax provision forecast accuracy.
  • Successfully implement local statutory and tax changes
  • Provide business BI from statutory Balance Sheet and Variance reviews.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • End to End ownership of controllership responsibilities for all legal entities and subsidiaries in India.
  • People manager role managing team across all businesses in India; team located across Gurgaon, Hyderabad and Bangalore.
  • Overall responsibility for all entities in India:
    • US GAAP
    • India GAAP accounting
    • Reporting
    • Statutory and Tax compliances
    • Treasury, etc.
  • Responsible to manage external relationships with:
    • Bankers
    • Statutory Auditors
    • Tax Consultants
    • Outsourced Vendors for shared services, etc.

  • The role will work very closely with respective finance organizations in each business groups as well as with the India Controls and Compliance organization.
  • The role requires expertise in managing through impact and influence; requires comfort in operating in a matrix organization with several stakeholders.
  • Close collaboration with HR, legal, tax and trade, real estate and facilities, procurement, finance shared services, supply chain and other functions.

    • He/She will be accountable for hiring, developing, retaining and driving the performance of the team directly reporting in to him/her.

    • Representing finance and the business at quarterly review meetings with Vendors and internal functions, ensuring all parties are accountable for continuing to improve performance.
    • Participating and driving projects across the subsidiary to drive impactful results and enhance the role of finance.

  • Role Model for the values of the company
    • He/She should be capable of acting as a role model and educator for financial management and compliance, helping to set the appropriate tone throughout the subsidiary.
    • He/She should be capable to deputize for the Finance Lead in all matters, including presenting to subsidiary and area leadership and externally to partners or customers.

  • Business Excellence
    • The Financial Controller has primary responsibility for timely and accurate production of statutory and management accounts as well as other filings. This role drives business productivity improvements through holding business partners to account, best practice sharing and ROI analysis.
    • Collaborate with the area Control & Compliance lead to embed compliance into the finance and business processes within the subsidiary.
    • Coordinate with outsourced providers, corporate tax function and external advisors together with the local finance team to ensure full and accurate compliance with all local statutory and tax requirements.
