Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.
Azure Cosmos DB is Microsoft’s next generation of globally distributed, massively scalable, multi-model cloud database service. It is designed to enable developers to build planet-scale applications. Azure Cosmos DB is one of the fastest growing Azure services. Cosmos DB is a database of choice for the spectrum spanning from the hobbyist developer to the largest of Fortune 500 companies. The database provides the data backbone of many critical systems in Health Care, Retail, Telecommunications, IoT etc. where the Service Availability and Latency is paramount. Cosmos DB provides financially backed SLA (service level agreements) around 99.99 Availability and < 10 MS Latency, and we take pride in designing services at scale. As a foundational Azure service, Cosmos DB service has a footprint that spans every Azure region. The team prides itself on building innovative reliable solutions to support customer scenarios and growth.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineering who is passionate about cloud databases and who likes taking data driven decisions and building innovative solutions to support the business growth. You will be responsible for building and optimizing solutions to build Compute services in Cosmos DB at scale. You will collaborate with other engineers on the team and work on designing, and implementing reliable, low-latency solutions for Cosmos DB services.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience debuging, reading code and work on a large and increasing codebase.
- Experience mentoring other developers, working partners and being a team player.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deliver innovative and impactful features within Azure Cosmos DB
- Work on coding, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting throughout the application development process.
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure that our software meets the needs of our customers.
- Continuously improve your skills and knowledge to stay up to date with the latest technologies and best practices.
- Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems.
