Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.

Azure Databases Security and Compliance team is hiring a Principal Group Product Manager to lead strategic security initiatives and data governance strategies across all database products. In this role, you will guide a team of product managers in defining and executing innovative security solutions while ensuring Azure Databases meet the highest standards for compliance and data protection. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of cloud security, drive impactful outcomes, and grow as a leader in a rapidly evolving field.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in product/service/project/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years people management experience.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Understanding of industry standards related to data security and data governance.
  • Prior experience of leading security features within a large-scale database or data-related product.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience driving strategic initiatives and manage cross-functional teams.

Product Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction in identifying long-term investment opportunities in security and data governance.
  • Lead our team in planning security investments, functional specs, and driving scenario walkthroughs.
  • Assess and evaluate emerging trends in IT security, information protection, data governance, and A.I.
  • Coach our team of product managers to define business impact of security across the Azure Database organization and establish clearly defined success criteria.
  • Foster a data driven culture in the team by collecting performance metrics and forming hypotheses to measurably improve product development.
  • Promote security with customers at conferences, workshops, and in meetings with analysts.
