Overview
We have an immediate opening for a business-focused attorney supporting Microsoft’s global support and customer success operations, on the legal team supporting Customer Experience & Success (CE&S) in the role of Principal Corporate Counsel.
CE&S, part of Microsoft’s Customer and Partner Solutions organization, empowers customers to accelerate business value through differentiated customer experiences that leverage Microsoft’s products, services, and partnerships. CE&S leads execution of Microsoft’s commercial strategy post-sale, orchestrating technical engagement through our support and customer success teams.
This role will focus on Microsoft’s support products and services, the global operations and technology platform through which support is delivered for all Microsoft products, across all customer segments worldwide. You will join the legal team supporting the evolution of support operations through technology, helping navigate complex regulatory and commercial challenges.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Doctor Degree or international equivalent degree AND 4+ years experience as a practicing commercial/business attorney
- OR equivalent experience.
- Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.
- Experience practicing in sophisticated legal environments requiring technical acuity.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
- Outstanding analytical, organizational, and writing skills, as well as a record of effective cross-team collaboration in a diverse and matrixed environment.
- Keen business sense, results orientation, with the ability to think strategically and find creative business-oriented solutions to legal issues.
- Experience with issues related to privacy, data security, and incident response.
- Experience drafting and negotiating a broad variety of transactional agreements.
- Commitment to a culture of inclusion, respect, and collaboration.
- A passion for working in the technology sector and including a demonstrated interest in applying technology, including AI, to improve legal work and efficiency.
- Ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow, and adjust to frequent fluctuations in workload and business imperatives.
Legal Counsel IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $129,200 - $227,500 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $162,000 - $243,000 per year.

Responsibilities
- Provide front-line counsel and advice to senior business partners from a global operational team on issues related to privacy, security, use of AI, customer support, business process outsourcing, and compliance.
- Collaborate with internal and external legal and policy specialists to guide the business through emerging regulatory and commercial challenges.
- Draft, negotiate, and counsel the business partners on high impact supplier agreements.
- Lead cross-group projects related to business support delivery and the integration of technology-enabled tools and processes with traditional support delivery.
- Implement new models and technologies for delivering legal advice at scale
