We are hiring Software Engineer II to help build the next generation of PostgreSQL as a cloud platform—one that powers mission-critical OLTP workloads, intelligent applications, and developer-friendly APIs and workflows.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Technical fundamentals in distributed systems, databases, or cloud-native architecture

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on databases, storage engines, or high-scale backend services
  • Interest or experience in AI-driven data workloads (e.g., search, agents, vector databases)
  • Familiarity with Rust, PostgreSQL internals or contributing to open-source systems
  • Comfort with debugging, diagnostics, and operations of live services
  • Passion for improving developer productivity and building with empathy

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year.
There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities

In this role you’ll have opportunities to:

  • Design and implement scalable, reliable core services in our next-gen PostgreSQL platform
  • Develop AI Store capabilities including vector search and graph extensions
  • Build intuitive, cloud-native APIs and SDKs for application developers and agent-based systems
  • Integrate PostgreSQL with GitHub Copilot, VS Code, Azure Functions, App Services, and more
  • Collaborate with product, advocacy, and open-source communities to deliver impactful solutions
  • Help maintain and operate live services in a high-availability, distributed cloud environment
