Microsoft’s Modern Work division is seeking a Director, Executive Communications and Speechwriting to lead the communications strategy for the Corporate Vice President (CVP) of Microsoft 365 and Copilot Product Marketing.

In this role, you’ll shape and amplify the voice of the CVP, crafting narratives that showcase how Microsoft 365 and Copilot empower people and organizations through Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered, integrated experiences. As a trusted advisor and strategic partner, you’ll own executive communications across internal and external platforms - from employee engagement and organizational storytelling to keynote speeches, thought leadership, and global events.

We are seeking a candidate with deep expertise in communication, executive storytelling, speechwriting, and communication strategy. Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Business or related field AND 6+ years Communications, Marketing Operations, Field Operations, Program Management, Project Management, or related experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years exprience in executive communications, speechwriting, or strategic communications for senior leaders in a corporate, agency, or government setting.
  • 4+ years experience crafting compelling, impact narratives that translate complex business strategies and technologies into clear, human-centered messages. Including writing, editing, and storytelling skills across a variety of formats for external and internal audiences (speeches, blogs, social media, talking points, video scripts, etc.) for senior leaders.
  • 4+ years experience developing and executing end-to-end communications strategies aligned to organizational priorities, including internal communications, external engagements, and thought leadership.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 8+ years Communications, Marketing Operations, Field Operations, Program Management, Project Management, or related experience
    • OR Master's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 6+ years Communications, Marketing Operations, Field Operations, Program Management, Project Management, or related experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years experience supporting senior executives in an executive communications role.
  • 3+ years experience working with social media platforms.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 products (Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
  • 2+ years experience working directly with AI and productivity technologies, including Microsoft 365 and Copilot.

Communications IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $251,900 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $272,300 per year.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities Include:

End-to-End Communications Strategy

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy for the CVP, aligned to business priorities, product milestones, and core narratives across internal and external channels.
  • Own a proactive editorial calendar that integrates with business rhythms, global campaigns, and marketing moments to drive timely, impactful storytelling.
  • Translate complex value propositions into clear, inclusive, and compelling messaging tailored to diverse audiences, ensuring consistency and scalability across formats using standardized tools and templates.

Executive Thought Leadership & Messaging

  • Shape and amplify the CVP’s voice across key platforms - including speeches, keynotes, blogs, social media, and op-eds – while aligning to Microsoft’s brand and values.
  • Prepare and coach the executive for stakes engagements such as customer summits, media appearances, analyst briefings, internal all-hands, and industry events.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor in business planning discussions, ensuring message consistency and scalability while mentoring others to uphold a unified voice and quality execution.

Strategic Storytelling & Content Development

  • Lead cross-functional storytelling that brings the CVP’s vision and Microsoft’s mission to life through customer success stories, data, and insights - driving cohesive, impactful narratives across marketing, product, and communications.
  • Create and lead end-to-end content strategy and development, including speechwriting, executive presentations, social content, blogs, and internal communications, ensuring the right cadence, format, and channels for maximum audience engagement.

Cross-Team Orchestration & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as a strategic advisor and liaison between leadership and communications teams, ensuring clarity, alignment, and message consistency across all efforts.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally and manage agency partnerships to scale content creation and drive impactful campaign execution.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Define success metrics and use data-driven insights to assess communication effectiveness across platforms, continuously optimizing strategies based on feedback and analytics.
