Overview

We are seeking a Principal Product Manager – Privacy to join the M365 Trust Team to drive the implementation of complex regulatory and data compliance. This role is critical to ensuring our engineering teams can confidently and efficiently meet evolving regulatory, privacy and other data governance requirements.

You will lead the M365 implementation of complex requirements or similar large-scale initiatives related to data compliance. This includes the implementation of new regulatory requirements, new/updated external customer commitments and work resulting from external investigations or audit recommendations. It also includes any large or complex initiatives to implement data compliance automation or efficiency efforts. You will be required to translate policy into clear, actionable engineering requirements, identify technical solutions, and provide design guidance to affected engineering teams. This is a high-impact role that requires technical fluency, cross-functional leadership, project management skills and a deep understanding of privacy and data compliance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/project/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years experience driving privacy or compliance initiatives across large-scale engineering teams (10K plus engineers)
  • Lead complex and cross-functional initiatives without direct authority.
  • Experience with privacy expertise and technical acumen to translate privacy regulation or policy into engineering deliverables, and engage in discussions about system architecture, data flows, and engineering tradeoffs.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in working on compliance for commercial cloud or productivity services.
  • Communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across engineering, legal, and policy teams.
  • Experience supporting regulatory investigations, audits, or customer trust escalations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience.

Product Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with large-scale engineering teams to define, scope, and drive implementation of data compliance solutions for new features, regulatory investigations, and cross-team initiatives.
  • Drive readiness for new regulations or requirements by proactively identifying engineering impacts and coordinating implementation plans across product teams.
  • Translate regulatory and policy requirements into precise, unambiguous engineering requirements that can be implemented across Microsoft 365 product teams.
  • Serve as a liaison between engineering, legal, and policy teams to ensure mutual understanding of technical and regulatory constraints.
  • Lead complex projects across diverse teams without direct authority—driving alignment, accountability, and delivery through influence and collaboration.
  • Collaborate with privacy, legal, and stakeholders from other product teams to ensure holistic data compliance coverage and identify opportunities for integration and automation.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineering teams on design patterns, risk mitigation strategies, and implementation best practices.
