Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 5+ years experience working in product or service design
    • OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 4+ years experience working in product or service design
    • OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).
  • Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop hands on skills, proven ability to manipulate graphic files for design iteration during proof of concept builds.
  • Ability to manage timelines and deliverables for 5+ products in various stages of production process at one time.
  • Agility in reframing and reprioritizing workflows mid-workstream.
  • Industry knowledge and experience implementing corporate cosmetic specs.
  • Experience working in partnership with Tooling and Mechanical Engineers.
  • Extensive knowledge of color, material, finish implementation processes used in consumer electronics and soft goods industries.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service design
    • OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service design
    • OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).
  • 4+ years experience shipping products, services, or games and/or delivering to customers as a result of an end-to-end design process.
  • 7+ years experience managing manufacturing suppliers with proven record of bringing complex material and finish solutions from concept through production.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets and samples color material finish design to meet provided front end design intent through manufacturable methods.
  • Brings designs from concept spec through final production by balancing manufacturing methods, technical constraints, and cost of goods, to best meet conceptual design intent.
  • Provides final production standards, specs, signed parts, and deviation limits to development team.
  • Scouts for original effects and technologies for future use in product line.
  • Works with Redmond Design and Producer teams to understand product story and design intent.
  • Partners with suppliers to experiment with different processes and methods to bring design intent to life through various production methods.
  • Provides color, material, and finish variations and interpretations to Redmond Design/Producer team.
  • Manipulates art files as needed to execute different methods -Explores new technologies and processes that can be used for future projects.
  • Partners with suppliers, ME, and Dev team to execute design vision in ways that meet cogs goals and manufacturing tolerances.
  • Documents decoration and process flows, and optimizes selected processes.
  • Seeks out new processes and decoration methods for future use.
  • Executes color and material matches, and approves final selections after discussion with Redmond ID/Producer teams.
  • Tracks and executes post POC/Pre-EV changes and needs.
  • Signs goldens and limits as needed during development process.
