The Engineering Systems team supports nearly 2000 developers from around the world across dozens of products, experiences, and technologies. We are looking for a Principal Product Manager to take our efforts to improve developer efficiency, productivity, and happiness to the next level, helping the organization deliver more value faster to our customers. You must have a passion for the nuts and bolts of building hyperscale software. This role requires deep technical knowhow (systems architecture, build and test methodologies) as well as strong interpersonal and organizational skills (to define and ‘sell’ improved processes and tools to our customers).

You will help define the technology, tools, and processes developers use to deliver some of the most used software and services on the planet. You will partner across Microsoft and the industry to evolve our engineering systems, working with a mix of Open Source Software (OSS), 1st party offerings (like Visual Studio, VSCode, GitHub), and custom tools and integrations. You must be customer obsessed and deeply understand and empathize with engineers. You must strike the right balance between process and agility, providing your customers with clear guidance and guardrails to ensure all facets of business success. This is a highly collaborative role with emphasis on partnership across PM and Engineering to deliver impact together.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years' experience in product/service/project/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years' experience in distributed systems, large online services, deployment or change management, compliance enforcement or audit, test methodologies/quality control.

Other Requirements:


Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years of experience in product/service/project/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience leading engineering systems teams and experience improving internal developer productivity.
  • Experience leveraging big data, Machine Learning or Large Language Models.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing requirements and deadlines.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and contribute to a positive, inclusive work environment, fostering knowledge sharing and growth within the team.

Product Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Partner across Microsoft to understand business goals, user needs, collect requirements, and synthesize product plans to deliver maximum impact across all areas.
  • Deliver end-to-end product solutions, including competitive research, requirements definition, user experience, and delivery of capabilities.
  • Successfully validate and improve product solutions over time through data analysis and experimentation.
  • Manage dependencies across teams to ensure that features land on time with the required scope across desktop, mobile and web.
  • Collaborate with senior technical leadership across the company to set direction and roadmap.
  • Regularly present new product plans, strategy, demos, competitive reviews, and more to the leadership team.
