Senior Staff Accountant

Moda Operandi is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Accountant to join our growing team! The Senior Staff Accountant will be crucial to day-to-day operations within the Finance department. Areas of responsibility include ongoing journal entries, accruals and reconciliations.
Primary Responsibilities, include:
- Assist the accounting team with the day to day, monthly, and year-end operations including budget review and analysis and assist in preparation and presentation of monthly financials for GAAP and management reporting.
- Perform general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, credit card receivables, fixed assets, inventory, accruals and prepaid expenses
- Perform the processing of monthly journal entries, monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed assets depreciation and recording of adjusting and reclassification journal entries, if necessary
- Oversee and manage monthly sales commission and bonus payout process by coordinating with domestic/international sales team, finance, and human resources.
- Be an organized individual and ensure important accounting dates & tasks are completed on time. Support monthly close process by performing accurate accounting treatments within ERP system
- Work with Accounts Payables Team to ensure timely payments to Vendors and produce clean inventory/payable reports and T&E expense reports.
- Prepare monthly departmental financial reports and variance analysis for review with management.
- Assist in the various financial, multiple state/local/sales tax, and compliance audits that may arise.
- Support the FP&A team during the planning and budgeting processes.
- Act as a business partner to various internal departments to ensure proper finance/ control requirements for any new initiatives.
- Ad hoc projects as assigned.
Qualification/Ideal Experience:
- Minimum 4-5 years of working experience within an accounting/finance team
- Ecommerce/Retail industry experience preferred
- Strong understanding of GAAP
- Microsoft Office & ERP systems, preferably NetSuite
- Advanced Excel skills required (Ex: pivot tables, complex formulas, XLOOKUP)
- Excellent verbal & written communication
- Attention to detail & organized are a must
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
- CPA preferred
Job Type: Full-time; hybrid role; NYC based (Industry City Brooklyn office space)
Salary: $98,000 - $124,000 annually + Discretionary Bonus & Equity Eligible
