Summary:We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team as a Junior Product Realization Specialist - METAL (PRJS). In this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining and enhancing the Prototyping facilities at NewLab. If you are passionate about hands-on work, have a keen eye for detail, and are excited about working in a collaborative environment, we encourage you to apply. Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring adherence to safe work practices and promoting a secure work environment.
  • Conducting daily safety checks on equipment and tools.
  • Maintaining records and documentation to support safety protocols.
  • Collaborating on projects and repairs within the Prototyping Labs.
  • Cleaning and maintaining tools and facilities, with a focus on the metal shop.
  • Managing tool inventory and consumables, restocking as needed.
  • Collaborating with team members and users to ensure proper tool usage and cleanliness.
  • Keeping meticulous maintenance logs and tracking replacements and repairs.
  • Monitoring and maintaining fume and dust extractors and vacuums.
  • Setting up the vinyl printer/cutter for member use.
  • Post-processing 3D printed parts for members.
  • Contributing to the design and implementation of facility upgrades.
  • Collaborating with New Lab Staff and Members to determine prototyping requirements.
  • Leading and developing on-boarding training programs.
  • Operating and maintaining various tools and equipment.
  • Participating in the review of technical documents for member support.
Position Requirements / Qualifications:
  • Strong organizational skills and a commitment to safety.
  • Capability to lift up to 80lbs.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a patient, curious, and teamwork-driven mindset.
  • Initiative and self-motivation.
  • Experience in training and/or education within technical environments.
  • Ability to follow instructions, troubleshoot technical issues, and work with manuals and drawings.
  • Intermediate knowledge of woodworking and digital fabrication tools and processes.
  • Profound understanding of metal fabrication techniques and tools.
  • Skills in MIG and TIG Welding, sheet metal fabrication, and metal finishing.
  • Familiarity with reading drawings, CAD, and 2D/3D modeling.
  • Awareness of material properties in metal and plastic.
Advancement Opportunities:As you progress in this role, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Support staff in generating job quotes and contributing to the design and engineering of final parts.
  • Develop and execute machining plans for member requests.
  • Deepen your understanding of material qualities and machining requirements.
  • Monitor machining processes for accuracy.
  • Utilize measuring and inspection tools to ensure workpiece conformance.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
