About Piñata

Piñata is the nation’s leading rent rewards and renter fintech platform, powering loyalty, credit-building, and commerce for more than 1 million renters — with 10M+ contracted units coming online in 2025. We partner with property management companies, proptech platforms, and major consumer brands to turn rent — the largest monthly expense for Americans — into a financial unlock.

We’re looking for a Head of Finance & Controller who can architect the systems, team, and financial discipline to support this next phase of growth.

The Role

Piñata is searching for a hybrid finance & operations leader — someone who blends strategic finance, FP&A excellence, accounting expertise, and hands-on execution. This role will be the operational heartbeat of the company, ensuring the business is scaling with clarity, precision, and strong controls while enabling aggressive growth.

This is not a back-office finance role. This is a company-builder role — a leader who can partner with the CEO, own cross-functional execution, run tight financial processes, build models investors trust, drive operational discipline, and help scale Piñata into the category-defining renter loyalty and fintech platform.

What You’ll Own

Strategic Finance

  • Own all FP&A: forecasting, budgeting, scenario planning, unit economics, margins, cohort analysis, GTM efficiency, channel economics, and capital planning.
  • Build and maintain Piñata’s full financial model and investor reporting frameworks.
  • Partner with the CEO on fundraising, investor materials, diligence, and board reporting.
  • Design dashboards that bring clarity to the business

Accounting & Compliance

  • Oversee corporate accounting, month-end close, accruals, and GAAP compliance.
  • Design and enforce controls around revenue recognition — including multi-component, partner-driven, insurance admin fee, and loyalty/points models — ensuring proper ASC 606 treatment.
  • Manage audits, tax compliance, financial reporting, and external accounting firms.
  • Ensure proper reconciliation across multiple finance and internal systems.

Revenue Operations & Billing

  • Own invoicing, collections, and accounts receivable across customers
  • Implement automation, manage payables
  • Partner with Sales & Customer Success to enforce contract terms, pricing rules, and revenue policies.

Risk, Compliance & Controls (Fintech/Insurance)

  • Oversee financial and operational risk frameworks
  • Build compliance processes with external partners
  • Work closely with external counsel
  • Partner with Product on scalable, compliant fintech operations.

Leadership & Team Building

  • Build and lead a high-performing finance & operations team (finance, accounting, RevOps, BizOps).
  • Drive a culture of clarity, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Serve as a senior thought partner to the CEO and executive team.

Who You Are

  • Operator-athlete: able to architect systems and jump into the weeds.
  • Strategic & analytical: strong decision frameworks, crisp financial thinking, and clarity.
  • Deeply numbers-driven: you love models, dashboards, financial KPIs, revenue logic.
  • Process-oriented: you bring order, predictability, and control to a fast-moving environment.
  • Startup-proven: ideally from high-growth SaaS, fintech, proptech, or marketplace.
  • Low-ego, high-drive: urgent, accountable, and deeply collaborative.
  • Comfortable in ambiguity: you create structure where none exists.

Qualifications

  • CPA preferred or significant accounting depth (Big 4 or equivalent public accounting/audit experience strongly preferred).Experience leading finance at an early to growth stage company (Series A to C)
  • Experience seeing a company through successful M&A transactions
  • 7–12+ years in strategic finance, FP&A, operations, BizOps, or similar roles.
  • Experience owning and improving the monthly close process and GAAP compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of ASC 606 and complex revenue models
  • Proven ability to design and maintain financial models, dashboards, and investor reporting.
  • Experience in or exposure to fintech, payments, credit, or insurance is a major plus.
  • Strong systems skills (QuickBooks, financial tools, CRM/ERP systems, data tooling).
  • Experience building and leading teams in a scaling startup environment.
