We recently launched a platform that supports more podcasters than ever; Spotify for Podcasters. This platform allows creators to build, distribute, monetize, and grow a podcast, all for free. You can also easily understand and engage with your listeners on Spotify with this tool. We've done a lot already, and we have no plans of slowing down. Come help us build the future of podcasting!
We are looking for a Staff Fullstack Engineer to join our engineering organization to drive the development of our video podcasting technical strategy and to engage in a cross-company coalition of Missions involved in the delivery of video at Spotify.
You will drive work on video podcasting technical strategy and roadmaps, advocate for standard processes broadly, and give focused support to specific teams as necessary. You will help ensure that our solutions are scalable, balanced, and architecturally sound and that technical debt is both incurred consciously and repaid in a reasonable time. You will also be expected to mentor other engineers as they grow.
What You'll Do
- Be a strong engineering voice in our leadership group by advising and driving Spotify’s technical vision and strategy in the video podcast space
- Represent engineering in settings where deep knowledge of our video podcast tech stack is needed (Technical Steering Groups, cross-company work streams, Special Interest Groups)
- Spearhead video podcast-related projects, and provide technical expertise and mentorship to engineering teams, e.g. evaluating short and long-term options for video ingestion and transcoding
- Take ownership of the overall planning, execution, and release of complex technical projects, define the architectural vision, and provide leadership for teams
- Find ways to spread learning and knowledge sharing across the organization, leveling up our engineering practices and mentoring engineers
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to identify and tackle exciting problems, creating a world-class video podcast experience
- Establish technical strategies that align with those of our internal partners, ensuring video podcast content is safe for our consumers and can be consumed in ways that delight our consumers, and that support the overall monetization strategy for video podcast episodes
Who You Are
- You have 8+ years of experience in engineering
- You have experience with exporting optimized file formats, video streaming, and playback
- You have an understanding of adaptive vs progressive playback, caching/prefetching strategies, streaming protocols, encoding/decoding/drm
- You are a leader who has previously strategized, led, and executed company-wide technical projects
- You are a technical leader who knows how to translate product and business concepts into tech and can drive large-scale efforts across Spotify
- You possess technical knowledge that you can showcase your expertise by speaking at both internal and external conferences
- You are a phenomenal influencer and your decisions and insights impact the technology stack across agile teams
- You have worked hands-on as a Software Engineer where you gained a deep understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms and understand how to apply them to design pragmatic solutions
- You can solve sophisticated problems because you are skilled in finding, defining, and facilitating the creation of both low and high-level architecture
- You are the default go-to person as you love sharing your knowledge and enjoy mentoring peers
- You are passionate about what you do with a high curiosity about keeping up with current best practices in your areas of expertise
Where You'll Be
- We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode that is best for them
- Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the Americas region in which we have a work location: https://lifeatspotify.com/locations
- Prefer an office to work from home instead? Not a problem! We have plenty of options for your working preferences. Find more information about our Work From Anywhere options here
