We are looking for a passionate and seasoned Program Manager to join the Music Mission -- the team that owns Spotify’s end to end proposition for music creators and the experiences they create for fans. The team is dedicated to building tools and services to enable creation, promotion, expression, and monetization at scale.
Location
New York or Remote Americas
Job type
Permanent
The Music Expression team is focused on enabling creative expression through and around music by artists, aspiring creators, and fans. This team will build on the momentum of early features like Canvas, Countdown Pages and Music Videos to create the future ways that artists can share and express on Spotify and how fans can participate and respond. This is a high-profile and strategic area for the company that will enrich the Spotify experience and propel user growth.
What You'll Do
- Work closely with the Product Management team to steer the formation of new opportunities and how these move into discovery phases and then delivery. Ensure the appropriate people are involved at each stage of the product lifecycle.
- Facilitate roadmap planning: unpack broad, cross-functional initiatives into specific workstreams, help teams define scope, deliverables, and schedules, and coordinate release planning across multiple teams for multiple partners; Visualize the important program milestones for the delivery teams, so they understand how their work fits into the overall program.
- Be the key representative for Music Expression’s work in Spotify’s Company Bet process, large scale cross-functional initiatives that create significant business impact.
- Design and facilitate best in class operational processes to track and communicate progress across a program of work, facilitate decision-making, resolve blockers and call out risks to leadership.
- Understand and communicate complex engineering issues and ensure they are on a path for resolution.
- Coordinate project/program reviews, planning sessions, and other team events, as necessary.
- Enable continuous improvement during the program ensuring findings are captured, shared, and integrated.
- Culture Building
- Establish and run the program team’s rituals and rhythms: all hands, scrum of scrums, team meetings.
- Promote a happy, healthy program team by organizing ways to celebrate successes.
- Find exciting ways to spread the education of the team mission and goals, both within the team and externally to other teams at Spotify.
- Mission Operations (shared responsibility with the rest of the program & operations team)
- Collaborate across the Operations team to help drive Mission-wide processes, such as goal-setting, tracking, tooling adoption and broad communications.
- Collaborate with the centralized PMO on Spotify Company Bet processes.
- Help establish a center of excellence in the Spotify program management community, contributing resources for a growing discipline.
Who You Are
- Extensive experience working in program management roles working directly with software development teams.
- You have direct experience working on programs that drive toward consumer-facing experiences at scale.
- You have deep experience with programs that require expert handling of technical, legal, licensing, and UX dependencies.
- You have practical experience with agile and lean values, principles, and techniques.
- You have extensive experience in running discovery phases and have a toolbox of discovery techniques to help de-risk any large investments in solution building.
- You are flexible, and use your judgment to apply the model and approach that best fits with the context.
- You confidently and coherently communicate across teams and levels within the organization, translating complex ideas for collaborators in Design, Tech, Product, Data, Finance, Marketing, Sales, etc.
- You’re a great communicator and bring clarity to the projects you take on: defining goals and success measures, freeing up lines of communication, identifying and removing blockers, encouraging collaboration, and, most importantly, continuously looking for ways to improve how we work.
- You are the glue of a happy, productive, cross-functional program team; making space for the creative work across all disciplines to happen in a transparent, open environment.
We strongly believe that diversity of experience, perspectives, and background will lead to a better workplace for our employees and a better product for our users and our creators. This is something we value deeply and we encourage everyone to come be a part of changing the way the world listens to music.
