Indirect Tax Lead

We are hiring a US Indirect Tax Lead to support our Sales & Use Tax and Gross Receipts Tax processes. You will report to the Indirect Tax Manager and will focus on the preparation, review, and filing of US indirect tax returns, while also supporting tax accounting, process controls, and audit activities.

You'll Get To...
- Prepare and file US Sales & Use Tax and Gross Receipts Tax returns across multiple US jurisdictions.
- Review tax returns, reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting workpapers to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Manage filing calendars and track deadlines for quick return submissions and payments.
- Assist with tax technology initiatives, including Vertex system enhancements and process automation projects.
- Perform tax controls, reconciliations, and data analysis to support compliance and reduce risk.
- Collaborate with Tax, Accounting, IT teams, and external service providers to support ongoing compliance and process improvements.
- Research Sales & Use Tax rules and provide guidance to internal teams.
- Support audit processes, including gathering data and responding to tax authority inquiries.
- Draft and maintain technical tax documentation, tax position memos, and process guides.
- Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and support process improvements across tax reporting and compliance functions.
Who We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field (CPA or equivalent qualification preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in US indirect tax compliance, with a focus on Sales & Use Tax and Gross Receipts Tax.
- Experience using Vertex or similar indirect tax engines for tax determination, compliance, and reporting.
- Experience with indirect tax accounting, including preparation of reconciliations, journal entries, and workpapers.
- Prior involvement in supporting tax audits, including data extraction and handling auditor inquiries.
- Comfortable handling a mix of priorities, can provide clear updates, and you are someone who likes things at a fast-pace.
- Analytical and Proactive in your work
- Experience with cross-team collaboration such as with Tax, Accounting, and Engineering teams.
- Experience with tax technology projects, process automation, and operational improvements.

Cash Compensation Range: $126,500 - $185,000 USD
The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, experience, and location, among other factors.
In addition to the cash compensation above (which includes base salary and, where applicable for eligible roles, may include on-target commissions or overtime pay), Squarespace employees are eligible to be granted an option to purchase our common stock.
