Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Link is Stripe’s consumer payments product. With Link, consumers can pay quickly across thousands of businesses online—consumers can save payment info on any Link-supported site, then pay in one click across the Link merchant network. Link helps merchants optimize their businesses, increasing checkout conversion rates by over 13%.

The Link Payment Experience team is responsible for the “front door” of Link. We build the core Link user experience, including sign-up, managing payment methods, and actual payment. These flows exist across all of Stripe’s payment integrations, many of which are embedded directly in merchants’ websites and apps.

What you’ll do

We’re looking for an experienced Staff Frontend Engineer to join our team and lead initiatives to improve the experience of paying with Link. In this role, you’ll be responsible for defining strong front-end architecture patterns, leading development of reusable components, and collaborating across teams to accelerate Link’s growth overall. You’ll work with peers across Engineering, Design, and Product to ship new Link products and experiences. You’ll help grow a culture of strong technical decision making, and build an environment for your team to iterate and learn. You’ll excel in this role if you’re an experienced engineer with deep front-end expertise who collaborates well across multiple teams and functions to deliver high-quality results.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example in designing, developing and delivering a performant, highly polished user experience.
  • Drive frontend architecture discussions and decisions.
  • Partner closely with engineering, product, and design leadership to define our technical strategy.
  • Establish best practices and repeatable processes for other teams to build quickly and safely in the Link payments domain.
  • Make effective tradeoffs that consider business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation.
  • Develop and lead execution against both short-term and long-term roadmaps.
  • Work closely with platform teams across Stripe to set best practices and broadcast the needs of the Link organization.
  • Work in a variety of languages and technologies, including Typescript and React.
  • Mentor and coach engineers to become the next generation of leaders at Stripe.

Who you are

Minimum requirements

  • 10+ years of experience as in full time software development roles.
  • You have a strong technical background, including 8+ years of experience designing and engineering products and user surfaces for high-impact products.
  • You have a strong product and design sense, and enjoy collaborating closely with cross-functional partners to help shape high quality end-to-end experiences.
  • You have a deep technical understanding of frontend technologies, patterns, and best practices.
  • You’re self-directed and can operate autonomously across multiple teams to deliver scaled impact.
  • You have experience as a technical lead, including defining the roadmap for complex projects spanning multiple teams and functions.
  • You have experience mentoring and growing senior engineers.
  • You have experience working with modern web frameworks and languages, such as React and TypeScript.

Preferred qualifications

  • You have knowledge of and experience with authentication flows, session management, and secure cookie handling.
  • Strong understanding of CSS/JS animations and transitions, with a track record of creating high-quality visual experiences.
Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.

The annual US base salary range for this role is $224,000 - $336,000. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
