About The Role
Uber is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a team within our Container Platform Infrastructure group. As a manager within Infrastructure, you will significantly impact the evolution of Uber's backend teams and architecture. Our mission is to make transportation as reliable as running water, and we are looking for a passionate manager to build the dependable foundation that supports that vision.
The Container Platform team's mission is to bring to reality the next-generation container orchestration platform on Kubernetes that is secure, reliable, scalable, and highly efficient.
At Uber, we have a complex infrastructure spanning both on-prem data centers and multiple cloud vendors, operating a diverse variety of workloads (within: Stateless, Batch, Streaming and Stateful), each unique in its characteristics and requirements. Here are some examples of our work.
The team is large and geographically distributed across US, India, and Amsterdam. We expect candidates to demonstrate the following qualities:
Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Uber's cultural identity. Unless formally approved to work fully remotely, Uber expects employees to spend at least half of their work time in their assigned office. For certain roles, such as those based at green-light hubs, employees are encouraged to be in-office for 100% of their time. - Collaborate across many areas of Uber, work with other technical, product, and operation leaders across the Globe
- 10+ years of significant experience building scalable, fault-tolerant, and robust products and platforms.
- 5+ years in managing engineering organizations of 15+ people, including first-line managers and senior individual contributors.
- Proficiency in Operating Systems, Linux, Virtual Machines, Container (Docker/Containerd), Cluster Management (Kubernetes, Mesos) technologies.
- Knowledge of Big Data technologies such as: Spark, Ray, YARN, Presto, Athena and Flink
